How much tire sealant? Answer: it's not 4oz

I know many of us will be riding on various terrain. So I used the Slime Calculator to see how much of the green goop was suitable for the 20x4 CST Fat Tire to hopefully keep us riding flat free!

Riding both on & off-road- Slime Needed: 6 oz = 178.8 ml
Riding off-road exclusively- Slime Needed: 11.2 oz = 330 ml

Calculations based on 23.25" tire height (measuring from level ground to top of tire tread while bike is in an upright standing position) & 4" tire width.

Don't get caught out w/ a flat!

I'm thinking 10oz in back tire tube. Likewise, 6oz in front? 🤔 Sounds right, as most of the weight is distributed toward the rear of the bike (hub motor, rear rack, & rider weight while under acceleration)!

I plan to keep things even at 8 and 8. I haven't researched it enough to know if slime can affect tire balance, spoke tension, brake alignment, or anything else. But I've already got a 16 oz jug ready to go.

My theory is that half a pound of slime in a tire could in fact affect balance ... for about two or three revolutions. 😁

I never had a bike w/ ballast in the tires, 'will' this affect the ride of said bicycle?

I dunno either. Years ago i had a few family beach cruiser bikes for riding around paved neighborhood bike paths. Got it in my head to go with tubeless tires. Bad idea. After swapping to the tubeless the bike was much harder to pedal. But, I digress.

I hear that customers who would have ordered on March 16 HAVE received tracking information via email. Hey, at least we can say the ball is rollin'!

Think I saw one or two on r/Lectric saying something about getting their tracking number.

I don't think so especially once you get going. I've got like 12 oz in my rear tire ( 27.5 x 2.8 ) and I can't feel any weirdness. I also haven't had to pump that tire in three months.

Rad Power has Tannus Armour inserts (all sizes) currently in stock & ships within 2 days. It's been a real crapshoot trying to get these from the Tannus website, so @least we would know where to go if you're interested in a little puncture protection!

That seems like a lot. I use 2oz. The deal is when you get a puncture, the sealant has to be near it. So the puncture can be at the bottom so the sealant can flow down there. I.e. stop the bike and move the tire puncture into the right (bottom) position and let the sealant puddle around the area.

Often there is not enough RPMs in the tire to create sufficient centrifugal force to have the sealant flowing AND enough sealant volume to seal the hole while riding. So that is why they say use so much. Plus "use more of our product" is a bonus for them.

All good points you've made. So, my question is, for those who would've used, say, 10oz in the rear hub motor tire. Would the added 'ballast' affect the ride?
