How is the handlebar controller fixed.

Hi,
I’m thinking of reducing the width of my handlebars or possibly changing the handlebars completely. It’s simple to see how to move the brake and gear leavers as well as the grips which all have Allen key bolts to fix them. But I can’t see any way of tightening or loosening the handlebar controller, how does it grip to the handlebars and can it be adjusted so that when repositioning it there is a tight fit to stop it slipping around when being used?
