How E-Bikes Can Help Couples to Cycle Together

My wife and I ride the same way-her on an ebike and me on my light carbon road bike. I'm too fast when I ride my ebike with her, and she loves zooming by me going up hills.:)

My husband and I are an example of this. If I ride an acoustic bike, I can't keep up with him. If I ride an ebike, he can't keep up with me. So he bought an ebike, too, and now we can ride at the same level.

I love my ebike! Did I mention that before?

Some friends of ours ignored out advice and got an analog tandem. They're now finding they can't really get up the hills, so are looking to add a hub motor to the rear. They would have been so much better off with two eBikes.

or a Tandem Ebike

For many years my wife and I owned a tandem bike. Downhill the thing was scary fast, but up hills it was a complete dog. Also, while trying to make u-turns the bike had a habit of falling into itself.....meaning we fell over. Turns our really long wheelbases bikes, like a tandem, don't like sharp turns. 😜
It was a happy day for me when I sold that bike.

I always thought the tandem was a weird idea but now Fooferdoggie explained a good use of it.
I'd love to participate in this thread (all in all I bought the Vado to be ridden by my gf) but now we're separated by borders (darn covid!)

My wife and I have been cycling together for nearly 20 years, starting soon after I had surgery that corrected an issue that I'd been struggling with. We were never able to ride much locally, too many steep hills. Our first homemade ebikes opened up local rides to us about 9 years ago. Our new ebikes make the local area area even more accessible for errands, shopping and day rides. We're also finding that taking the ebikes out of the area to ride new trails is more than practical, opening up even more trails. We're now planning an unsupported six day 'credit card' ebike tour. Now that we're in our 70s the ebikes are allowing us to continue to expand our cycling horizons and stay active, together.

And a bit of a different angle on your theme since retirement we have been renting e-bikes on our many travels, I am all about the workout and keep it in eco mode and she slides it into a more comfortable assist level and enjoys the sights and sounds of the countryside, I bought an e-bike in December and love riding it every day (often giving my old analog mountain bike that has covered many miles with me a pat on the way out); with travelling obviously on hold my wife bought her own e-bike today - I look forward to our rides looking at the local countryside from her more "artsy" perspective

My wife and I have been riding together ever since we were married. We're getting older now and she was having difficulty keeping up. We switched to ebikes 2 years ago which was a big improvement! My wife is a social person though and her cycling enthusiasm was also hampered by fact that it is too difficult to communicate while riding. We solved that issue last year by purchasing bike helmets with Bluetooth intercoms. Unlike many others who prefer cycling solitude, we like to talk on our outings. The helmets let us share our thoughts and comment on the scenery as we ride.

The combination of the ebikes and intercom helmets made a world of difference for us.
