How does Ride1Up Produce Better Ebikes with less cost and effort than established rivals (eg Juiced)?

Awesome. I've got two series 700 heading my way tomorrow. Really looking forward to it.
Looking at maybe getting my son ( just turned 14) an e-bike to ride with me. Been looking at the Ride1up Core5 or roadster v2 or the radmission 1. Kind of ruling out the roadster even though I think it's the best looking of the 3 and it's light and simple. The other 2 gave more battery and even though it's not hardcore off roading I like to ride the Delaware canal towpath a lot and it's crushed red gravel and the roadsters tires/ rims don't look as well suited. Leaning towards the radmission 1 because he doesn't shift much , pretty flat around here, and 20 mph is more than fast enough for him.
Only issue I've had with my 700 is noise coming from the spokes, or at least I think it's the spokes, if I'm in a higher PAS or give it a sudden burst of torque. I've tightened them a few times which has helped but not eliminated it.

I don't care how they are doing it! My Core 5 is arriving this week and I am already thinking about getting a Roadster as a back up.

Core 5 seems like it would be good. Be careful that he is tall enough for whatever bike you get. My 5'6"/7" 17 year old is barely tall enough for the Ride1up 500. I do not have a Aventon but they come in different frame sizes. I have an Lectric XP with fat tires which is very adjustable in size also. My favorite e bike is my Espin Sport. I am 5'8". It is comfortable, would fit a shorter or taller rider, works great and has front fork suspension, hydraulic brakes. Bike weighs 55 lbs. Tires about 2 inches. The Espin fat tire bike, with 26" wheels is the Nero.

I was thinking about Aventon as well for that reason. He's 5'7" so I don't want to get anything he'll outgrow quickly. The espin sport is only $100 more than the Core5 and it has a suspension fork, hydraulic brakes and more battery....🤔

The sport would fit him. It is a lot of bang for the buck. Has a 17 frame I think. It also comes 95 per cent assembled. You can use my discount code and get $50.00 off. Code ESPINSQUAD-ANZTFK. You may want to check out their website www.espinbikes.com and the Espin ebr forum comments. You can e mail them at [email protected] or call 855-528-0108. Sport comes in black and cobalt blue. Right now they say delivery end of Nov. but delivery from pre order has generally been 4-5 weeks.

FYI I just found out Espin has a new model - Nesta. It is a folding e bike, fat tire, suspension fork, hydraulic disk brakes, 750 watt motor, but 10.5 ah battery, with racks, fenders, lights. Fits riders 5 ' to 6.3". Kind of like an upgraded Lectric xp. step thru. but also lighter. $1,099. Pre order for delivery January 2020. Smoke grey or glacier blue. www.espinbikes.com/products/nesta-1.

I couldn't see it on the website but I was wondering if you knew if the Sport I had a speed limiter in the settings? My 700 has it and it's something I would like if I got it for my son. For obvious reasons.... Thanks

You can change the top speed using the display. The parameter settings are very adjustable, but the settings are not very user friendly in my opinion. See the Sport manual on the Espin e bike site pp 10-11. Basically, you have to get into parameter settings by double short pressing the power button, then short press power button move through different types of settings. Change setting by short pressing the up or down button. The fifth parameter settings SPL is top speed. It can be set from 10 km/ hr to 41 km/hr. but also says max speed is restricted by controller and motor. The Espin manual says do not adjust that in the manual. Exit parameter settings by short pressing power button twice. I believe it supposed to come configured to 20 mph top speed adjustable to 28, but I think mine might have come with top speed set at 25. If you do not do anything for 10 seconds, the display will return to default display and you can start over. You can get more information from Espin support. Also see helpful info in the "My Espin Sport" Thread posted by Wmgentry where he has a link to the manual for the display.

Also, Japanese ebike companies do not go on Alibaba and re-brand them. They do have their own R&D department.
In addition, they have been making ebikes a lot longer than China.
This is true.

In fact, some venerable German bike manufacturers like ROSE were among the first to import Japanese made bicycles in the 60s. They admit even on their website it inspired their R&D for decades.

Well I was just showing the Espin Sport to my son as i was thinking about getting him one for Xmas but it looks like the price jumped around $150......

If anyone here is considering buying and bike from any manufacturer, you may not want to wait. There is a component shortage from parts manufacturers like Shimano. According to a recent interview with R1U owner Kevin Dugger, many parts are now back ordered nearly 9 months. This will limit production and availability for most bikes, but especially the smaller manufacturers, and inflate prices.

I also wonder how R1Up does it. Saw the 700 somewhere and decided I could build it. After getting over $1200 just for most of the parts just gave up and bought one. I do see a few similarly appointed brands so it can't be an impossible business model. Now I just need a cnc machine to make personalized on demand security bolts....

I got a 700 series last August and been pretty happy with it so far. I also assume that they get a discount for volume purchases of parts which helps. I also think the competition in the market means the profit per bike is probably a little on the low side which may hurt some companies in the long run

They were also able to help keep the price down with the 25% tariffs that went into effect this year passing only part of the cost on to customers.
