I am both new to the forum and to ebikes. I have been perusing this (and other) sites extensively, working to get my knowledge level up. One possible bike is a Hilleater Galliano, given some of its key components are Canadian. I have only found the occasional mention however, and little in the way of reviews. Anyone here own one and able to provide feedback?

Sorry not an owner but you might also like to try searching reviews of the components eg search for GMAC or phaserunner or Cycle Analyst both here and on Endless Sphere FWIW I like the bike and feel it would be a good choice for someone who might otherwise consider assembling their own ebike using Grin Tech components

I took one out for a test ride before the pandemic hit.
Here's a few 'good' and 'not so good' comments:
1. The motor is a beast. Up a medium grade hill (around 200 meters in length) I was able to hit 40kph without having to work really hard.
2. I would rate the torque sensor as only 'fair'.
3. I liked the regen.

I ended up not buying one. The bike I test rode had a very noisy rear brake and the really cheap plastic fenders rattled. The wonky torque sensor (mentioned in #2) made riding the bike less pleasant than it should/could have been.
I loved the motor, but the bike's poor quality and setup was enough to make me look elsewhere.

I appreciate your comments. I'm curious what you ended up purchasing instead?

Call them and talk. They are good to speak with I thought. I was about o purchase last week but I am told my wait for another bike is almost over so decided not to buy. They have a 2nd generation torque sensor but I don’t know if it an updated version of what Deacon test rode or the same version . I did not test ride one. If you like rear hub not sure what else is available in “class 3 plus (28 mph and above ) “

if you get past the torque sensor start a personal go fund my fenders and buy some good ones. They use upgraded brakes and shifters....

HillEater is a 'one-man' shop. The fellow is friendly and helpful, but even though we made an appointment to visit his shop in advance it was obvious that he had not gone over the bikes before we arrived.

new2ebike_eh, I ended up ordering a Helios from Watt Wagons.

new2, I also ordered watt wagon Helios , 3 of them for family. I was going to order the Hilleater which is in stock as a hold over ttil I receive the wattwagons and a spare for visitors and to just add to the n+1 ebikes in the stable

The replies are very helpful as I continue to look at my options. As a once avid and now unable to mountain biker (knees wrecked) my use case would be trails, some minor (easy) mountain type riding. The Galliano ST was an option for my wife with the Galliano the one for me. I am revisiting the various possibilities again....Surface 604 Rook/Colt (local) , Rize (internet), Bulls E8 Cross (local)....and exploring other options along the way as they come up.

No question this forum is an absolute treasure trove of information, with people willing to share of their knowledge.

I think mid drive would make a lot more sense if you're a mountain biker.
No mountain biking for me any more, 5 knee surgeries and I will be ridings easy trails only. From my reading, I believe I would prefer a mid-drive but really am trying to keep an open mind.
