Hi everyone, I'm new to this board and a recent ebike enthusiast. I am a big fan of the kits with the internal geared power hubs and see great things happening with electric bikes because of the new, lower entry point. My first was a 500W Gary Fisher hardtail with Maxxis tires and I felt like a kid again. Sold that one to a buddy and put a 750W 36V MAK internal geared 8 speed hub on a nice Giant I found, That bike cost about $850 to build and is ideal for a big guy going up long hills. I also installed a 500W kit for a Janis 21 speed womans bike for my wife, that ended up costing around $400. Next one is with a USA made Bison motor designed for HILLS.
I attached a picture of the Giant. It has a 36V 17.4 AH battery back in the triangle bag. I didn't install the PAS as I wanted to have control over the motor. It is for sale if anyone is interested.
If we want ebikes to grow they have to become a form of affordable transportation and not just a toy. Being able to provide someone a powered mode of transportation for under $500 could free a college student from having to own a car and the $200/month insurance tab that comes with it. Or it could provide a reliable form of transportation to the homeless shelter population so they can find work.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone

Welcome to the EBR forums, Tom !! Just drove through Columbia in June coming back from a family vaca in Ohiopyle. I love that city, and was hoping to get in a ride on the C&O next month. Love your bike !! I rented a Gary Fisher in '96 to ride the G.A.P. in Ohiopyle and promptly bought a similar Trek 850 when I got back from that trip. That classic lasted me until this May when I splurged on a Haibike SDuro Fullnine. Stay safe, and here's hoping you enjoy piling on the miles.

Thanks! Looking forward to riding again. Just had an eight week hiatus recovering from old man problems, going for my first real ride in months tomorrow!

Went whitewater rafting near Ohiopyle back in the early 80s. I was a grad student at WVU at the time. Beautiful country.
