Cameron has a point there - if you go hub motor, most of those require a freewheel cassette - you could opt for a DNP something like an 8 speed 11-34t gearing that would still provide good range (including the lowest/fastest gear being 11t which I believe DNP is the only company who currently makes this range of cog...at least in a freewheel option).
