After many years we've landed and age has brought a turn towards step-thru electric. Evelo Omega changing it from upright to more "aggressive" posture. First ebike so no ability to make comparisons. Support from Evelo is excellent.

Bike-commuted between Capel Hill and a rented farmhouse just that side of Hillsborough for 2 years back in the Late Bronze Age (late 1970s). Mostly beautiful rural riding over rolling hills back then. Probably a lot more developed now.

Ah, youth! After Vietnam I rode in the western US. At various times, covered San Francisco to Vancouver BC and parts of north central California.
Re development in Orange Co. Yes the country side is giving way to housing and commercial. The roads are very congested at commute times. The state is controlled by republicans and they show no interest in bicycle transportation issues. I ride with a yellow vest and helmet.
