GPS tracking and theft protection

I was wondering if anyone is using any kind of GPS trackers for theft protection? I saw some older article about R&M and something called "RX-Connect" but didn't find anything current.

Here in The Netherlands at least the RX connect is an available option for some of R&M bikes. The GPS option is a one-time fee of €101.90, and then you will have to subscribe to either the ConnectRide or ConnectCare packages. ConnectRide (€39.90 per annum) provides live-tracking, Geo-fencing alarm and statistics (through an app), ConnectCare (€159.90 per annum) adds theft protection, where a company will locate your bike and return home within 7 days or R&M provides a new bike.

Here in NL insurance premiums for theft are very high, could be in the €800- ish per annum for a policy that includes mandatory road insurance, all risk insurance, and theft insurance + road side assistance.

Thank you, very informative. This sounds very nice, but I can only find information about this in the German version of R&M site. Maybe it is only available in Germany and NL?

I’ve been using the Apple Air Tags on various items, including bikes. Small enough to be secreted away.

I am pretty sure this option is available in more countries in Europe such as Belgium, Austria, Switzerland. Not sure about other countries though.

Ok. I live in Finland myself. Can the bike be fitted with the chip afterwards, or is it something that should have been done when ordering the bike already? I guess I should just ask from R&M customer service. I'm also curious if anyone is successfully using some other 3rd party tracker with a R&M bike.

Got a confimation from someone at R&M that RX Chip is only available in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the BeNeLux Countries and can not be retrofitted. So I guess the rest of us need to look into 3rd party solutions. :)

Thanks for confirming this! Pity for all those living outside that small geo-area.

I have installed https://powunity.com/en in my super charger 2 and it's a realtime GPS tracker.
First year it's free from subscription and after the year it's 40 euro on yearly base.

Disadvantage RX chip is build is that the user/owner cannot check the location of the bike only RM.
With powerunity you have full control.

That looks really good. Getting my new R&M Nevo3 tomorrow and will certainly look at getting one.

How easy was it to install and how reliable is the App as it doesn’t have a high rating.

I use the system now for more then 1,5 year and the GPS accuracy is very good there is no different between my Garmin or the tracker.
The app does all the necessary shows on google maps the location and what route you have done by trip/day.
You can also login via a web browser and see the same information as in the app.

Installing is no more then 5 min. work there are some instruction video's on there site.

The dealer delivered my bike yesterday. Mentioned to him about fitting the BikeTrax. They advised that they stock it and can install one at the 250 mile service.

Sorry if this is redundant but I was scrolling through some ebike products and found this:

Looks to be the same company as mentioned above. Anyone know how hard these are to install?

It looks like this might not work in the US yet, though which is a bummer.

Below is a good (but a bit long) thread on GPS trackers.

Around the middle of the thread is a good review of one very similar to the one mentioned here is the TK419, with benefit of not being tied to any specific Wireless provider or monitoring platform, and therefore works anywhere.

I ordered TK419 on Amazon after reading that thread. It works fine so far, but it is hard to hide on a bike if you don't have bags or containers attached to the frame.
I boiught H2O Wireless SIM card at Bestbuy and selected pay as you go plan. $10 gives you about 100Mb for 3 months. That should be sufficient for slow update.

@MikeL are you using it connected to the main battery, or on the additional external battery, or both?
I am wondering if you can have both the main battery and an external battery connected, with the tracker charging the external with the main.

I am using a separate 3s (about 12v) RC lipo battery to power TK419. I have many different size RC batteries and several chargers.
TK419 has a small built-in battery or capacitor. Not sure how long it can work on internal source, but definitely enough to send text message that external battery is disconnected.
I don't want to use 48v ebike battery to charge my small RC lipo. No space for charger circuit on the bike and I don't want to discharge 48v battery.
I put TK419 and lipo into external motor controller box attached to the downtube. On my other bike I do not have external controller box. Not even sure where to hide the tracker. I might add a rear rack and bag or fake controller box.
