Got Called a "Cheater" by Another Cyclist

I’ve only been called out a couple of times in passing, once on the trail and along a pathway. I just chalked it up to individuals who may have never ridden one before. Most folks were keenly interested in the bikes or were actively shopping around for one.

my poor wife on the back of our e tandem gets yelled at all the time. like she is cheating she is not peddling and such.
Whenever I pass a tandem I either ask who usually wins or tell the person in front to pick up the pace... She's gaining on you.
So much nicer than calling someone a cheater

I ride with friends on non-electric bikes frequently and they sometimes make fun of my "cheater bike", in a good natured way. I've ridden with groups where people joke about it too. IME the people who actually are pissed off about people on ebikes don't say anything, they just do everything they can to pass/drop you.

People who really want to make you look slow are just like the drivers on the highways that really want to speed. All the power to them - get by me and go away please (not that I'm all that pokey anyways).
In the winter you'll find the icy section and I'll slow down when I see you in the ditch, and of course you'll often find the law enforcement for me.

I got called a cheater in under 2 minutes on my very first ebike ride. All I could do was laugh loudly.
Oh, and I play guitar, and my other bike is an acoustic.
So there. 🤣
Acoustic ... powered by sound waves...
Analog ... all electronics on an ebike except the display
Manual ... powered by human muscles
DinoBike ... powered by Fred and Wilma

@BrianK made a t-shirt that says "I've had 5 heart attacks, what's your excuse?"
I did have a major heart attack too, though 13 years ago. Left bundle branch block from the prior heart attack sent me into acute congestive heart failure in October. My left side cardiac output was down to 18%. (Yeah, that’s pretty bad.)

But I got a biventricular pacemaker defibrillator in December and after Covid in April, finally got back on my e bike today.

I took it easy, only went 7 miles since I hadn’t ridden since August.

That biventricular pacemaker “cures” the left sided heart enlargement by restoring left-right side heart coordination and brings left sided cardiac output back up to your baseline.

Regardless, I think I have a good excuse for being a “Cheater”!

When it comes to medicine, I know nothing, but I think it's a miracle that you can get back on. One small step at a time.
