Go Bike Forte Trike Controller problem

I have a new Forte trike that doesn't work. The distributor gave up, refunded my money and left me the trike due to shipping costs to return it. It's a beautiful heavy-duty trike, but it's brain dead! When the throttle is pressed or pedals activated, it wants to reach its max speed no matter where PAS is set. Walking the trike it shows 10kph on the speedo which is impossible. I'm thinking that I need to replace the controller but am having a problem finding one that fits. The controller is DC48V, and the motor is 750W. Measurements are Length 4 1/2",Width 2.0" Thickness 1 1/4". The display is SW900. I'd appreciate if anyone could give me a lead on where to find a new controller that might fit. Maybe the controller isn't dead? Anyone with any ideas on what just may be a problem if it's not a dead controller? Thanks.

When you say “it wants to reach its max speed”, is this with no load? I mean, with the tire in the air? I ask because this is sometimes normal. While mounted on the bike, you may find that you won’t reach max speed so easily.

How is 10kmph impossible? Walk mode is usually about that speed.

here is a youtube link that may help
Maybe you have already seen it...i could not find any replies to your post...I am new to the forum. Good luck. Ron in BC
Thanks for all your work to make that video! Unfortunately I only get a code when brakes are on. Thanks anyway.

That top speed is wheel down. I do know better than to expect the trke to operate correctly without the drive wheel on the ground. If you can walk @ 6 mph your in way better shape than I. Thanks anyway.

Welcome aboard!

What you're describing may or may not be normal behavior. Some ebikes have all-or-nothing throttles. And ebikes with cadence-sensing assist (the most common kind) typically have all-or-nothing assist. The motor's either off or at 100% power, never in between.

In that case, assist level usually sets, not motor power level, but simply the ground speed at which assist cuts out.

Does any of that sound like your trike?

I bought an ebike kit that used the SW900 display. Same response, all PAS levels spin up to max speed, but throttle was variable. It also was intended for a direct drive motor, as it could not display speed when coasting, It was clearly a mistake by the vendor. He put the wrong display in his kit, but I just put in a more suitable controller/display.

Congrats on the free Trike, You will have to replace the display and controller as a unit. Anywhere between $50 to $150, is my guess. You probably don't need more than a 17A controller for a Trike.

Does your current controller use the rats nest (SM) connection or the modular (WP) connectors. In particular, how does it connect to the front wheel? The connectors will determine what you will probably buy,
