Glasses

Can someone please recommend a pair of sunglasses that would be good for my commute? The other day was pretty windy and I kept getting junk in my eyes. There is also a section of my commute that is a gravel road where junk flies up at me. Keep in mind that I really don't like sunglasses and never wear them. I feel that they hinder my vision. I need something that can be worn early in the morning as well.

I wear the Oakley Racing Jacket:



They came with two lenses (yellow and tinted) they also have vents in them to allow airflow through. I think that's to help with the fog problem

Yes, Oakley/Tifosi for sporty look and Jim Maui for more casual look. I have Oakley Radarpath polarized and certainly helps with the glare and has good low light visibility too.

I think in hot climates like Arizona or Cali, racing jackets w/ventilation would be nice.

Thanks Ravi and James, but too rich for my blood. Those both look nice, but I have five kids to feed. We'll really just 2, but I am hoping I can find something much cheaper! Once and a while Oakley has a invite only warehouse sale, maybe I'll try to sneak into it!

I hear you Vern. Okaley is something I got this year. Sometimes I think they are overrated but I certainly enjoy wearing them.

When I used to be an active runner, I used this Tifosi and for under $35, they are great. It served me well for 3 years.

I went to Lowe's and picked up a pair of clear safety glasses. They're relatively stylish (no Mr. Wizard goggles here... they look more like untinted sunglasses). I think it was $12. They work WONDERFULLY, and I don't fear them cracking/breaking/failing if I get larger debris flying at my face. Can't beat the price!

Great question Vern, I've got a pair of custom white Oakley Jawbones and they look much like Vern's "Racing Jacket" so I wonder if it's the same thing or just renamed? The ability to use clear vented lenses is awesome and while I did spend an extreme amount of money for them (I think $250 for the custom colors... this was right when they were first coming out in 2010) I still have them and use them frequently. They feel great, work well and are versatile.

There are lots of options for less expensive eyewear (consider these ~$8 Dewalt safety glasses with anti fog and semi-clear lenses) I just fell in love with the Oakley design and knew I could make them last

What about over the glasses goggles? I have looked for some that are bicycle helmet oriented but have not seen any to test fit . Do the work well enough to pursue or too much hassle?

Interesting... I could see how this would be useful if you have perscription glasses but want more protection. Tommy from Outrider wears a full face helmet with ski goggles for extra protection (since his bike goes 80+mph) but no glasses underneath. I bet there are some oversized goggles that work with glasses but I can't say how comfortable they are.
