Gear sensor Bafang 750 BBSO2

I’m getting ready to order the Bafang 750 BBSO2 and not sure how important it is to buy the gear sensor. Did I read that you can use the brake as a sort of clutch to stop the motor to make it easier on the drive train? Thoughts? Ideas? Comments?

A tap o the brake or a slight backpedal with kill the motor for a smooth shift. However, the gear sensor is a bit quicker and more efficient.
