Hi folks!

Many of you have asked for improvements to the search function on the forums. Previously, the search worked "okay" but left a lot to be desired.

I'm happy to report that we've upgraded to Enhanced Search which allows for searching for words of any length - even if they are three characters or less! Search is now much smarter and should return more helpful results regardless of what you're searching for.

Please try it out the next time you need to find something, and if you have any other requests regarding the core functionality of our forums, just let me know :)

Thanks, just tried searching on "age" and it brought up the average age poll. Much better.😁

This is a most welcome improvement. Just curious why restricting the word search to three letters or less. I know folks would like to be able to search for things like, full suspension, bosch, shimano, rear hub, controller, brakes, etc.

Can you add “view first unread” ? Most forums have this and it helps bring you to last time you visited.

Apologies for the confusion, long word searches still work as well :) I've updated my original post to be more clear.
Very short search ... SL ... brings up Vado SL, Creo SL, etc. just like it should. That means state codes CA, PA, FL, etc. Should work for finding trail review and ebike group rides.

Short searchs: "PA ", "OH ", "NY " do not work well yet. It ignores the caps and the space after the state, so many false positives.

That´s great; it will save much time trying to locate content from previous posts &, perhaps, reduce redundant posts.

This is welcome news. My search for "Sena R1 EVO" now works as it should. Thanks for your efforts!

You are very welcome!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll check into this. I believe there is a default library of words that get excluded for the index, I could see a case for "oh" lowercase being excluded, but I would think all the state abbreviations should work. Will let you know what I find out!

"PA " returns PAS level, Past time, etc. Thanks again.

Ok, I found some info. Apparently the search engine only recognizes single quotes, so searching for 'PA ' will get you much better results! Not sure why it doesn't recognize double quotes since they are quite common when searching for phrases 🤔

In addition, the engine supports the following operators:

+ = AND (default)
- = NOT
| = OR

The search is also always case-insensitive. I'd like to add a check box to enable case-sensitive search, but it won't be anytime soon as there doesn't appear to be any straightforward way to do it.

Very very good. I didn't try single quotes ... I haven't used them in years ... re the advanced operators 'Giant -= IGH' should return posts with Giant but without IGH ? Sound right? If the search is always case insensitive , you may not be able to change that with a lot of unexpected obstacles, and it's really not necessary.

Not trying to be negative, but I am noticing much poorer performance overall on the forums lately. In fact they were unreachable for a while earlier today.
I don't have the exact time, but I'd guess around noon Eastern. Of course that could be a local issue, but nothing else was degraded that I tried.

To search for Giant and not include anything with IGH, you would do:

Giant -IGH

To search for Giant or IGH, you would do:

Giant |IGH

This can also be combined with phrases in single quotes, so you could do something like Giant -'Ride Control', or PAS |'pedal assist', and so on.
