Fitness trackers for electric bicycle

Does anyone have experience with fitness trackers as they relate to pedal assist electric bikes? The only iPhone app that shows an electric bike option seems to be Strava. From what I can see the electric bicycle option is not available on other apps, I have to assume Strava is only using the heart rate sensor.

I use my Garmin running watch to record my e-bike commutes, which syncs with Strava. If one wanted, they could install power measuring pedals, Garmin temp sensor, and an HR strap. All of those sync with a Garmin device, which would then sync with Strava. As you stated, Garmin does not offer an e-bike option but Strava does so the ride can be tagged their for review later. I don't have the power pedals but do monitor my heart rate as a measure of effort during my hour long commute.

I should add that one should hide their e-bike rides from messing up the segment times in Strava. There's an option to mark it a "Private activity" and one can also select "Hide from segment and challenge leaderboards". When I commute in, I generally become KOM of several segments until I mark one of those two options. Some people take the segments seriously!

I guess the key for rider’s data inputs comes down to senors. The Bosch performance CX measures acceleration, torque (on the pedals) and speed. With a future Cobi system you would hope Strava or other cycling apps would take advantage of the data collected from these sensors.

You could also select E-bike and you will not be included in the segments.

I apologize, I didn't see your first reply that you did have it on the E-bike setting so I had to go back and double check my results. I did a non E-bike ride today and the segments showed up.

I then changed the setting to E-bike and the segments are no longer there. I don't know why I have different results from you.

We use a Polar V650 GPS bike computer, which tracks all bike data (speed, cadence), your route (mapped location, elevation) and heart rate metrics. We find that the most important thing about a fitness tracker is where will the data be stored and how is it displayed. Will it be stored on line? On your phone? Both? We had Polar heart rate monitors from way back, so stayed in their eco-system. Polar has an excellent website for reviewing all your rides, workouts, etc., so we stuck with them.

I use my Fitbit (gives me roughly 300 steps per mile) and I also use (and love) Strava!
