Fender mudflap ideas

Anyone got any good DIY mudflap ideas? So far I've heard of flex cutting board, flexi mat style sled, and rubber stair riser. Do you guys have something that you swear by? My bike has a front fender but it only extends down to the 180 degree line. I'd like to extend that down to almost 235 degrees around.

How about something like this, you can make one out of a 2 liter cola bottle.

I made mud flaps out of the rubber stair treads. This website has the template that I used for the sizing.

They fit perfectly in the Quick-E fenders and I drilled two holes for bolts, but a zip tie would probably have worked just as well.

No, it is just the stair tread, cut to the right size and bolted on to my fenders. They are stiff enough to keep me & the people behind me dry and flexible enough to bend away at curbs. No flapping that I have noticed. The work way better than I had anticipated.

No I did not use any duct tape, just drilled 3 (1/8) holes per fender and used aluminum rivets to attach the mud flaps to the fender.

I think the confusion is you suggested using a soda bottle, but your photo shows a flap made of something very unlike soda bottle plastic?

Yes you are right, did not even think about it till you pointed it out.
So I made mine out of rubber mat that is used to put in tool chest to stop tools from sliding around, however you can make it using a soda bottle instead.

I just finished my own mud flap project. I liked what BuddyFlaps showed on their website but was a little worried that the way they attach with bolts that there might not be enough clearance between the tire and the fender on my Giant Explore E+ 1. So I took the photo of the front flap from their website, dropped it into PhotoShop and resized it to what I thought would work and then printed it. I cut it out and held it on my fender to see how it fit, then revised the size and printed again. Perfect. Now the search for appropriate material... I looked for plastic bottles, rubber mats, etc. and nothing seemed quite right until I found a notebook binder. The material was rigid enough but not brittle and quite thin. I used double-sided tape to attach my template on top of the cover and cut it out with scissors. And then I drilled two holes and used aluminum rivets with aluminum washers (both sides) to attach it to the fender. Perfect! Other than for the color (I would have preferred black but this is what I had on hand).

Here's how it looks:

The only downside of this is that if I remove the front wheel I can no longer rest the bike on the front forks. I have to use a small bench or step or have the bike up on a rack. Small price to pay for keeping mud and grit off the motor area, chain and my shoes.
