Evelo Dash information

Hello, I am also looking at getting the DASH. I appreciate the reviews. Keep them coming! I am getting close to purchasing one. I have a couple of questions: Can you roll the DASH while in folded position? Does the 6 mph requirement before throttle cause you any issues? Is there anything you would like to see changed on it? Have you found the perfect cover for the bike? Thanks in advance for your replies.
 
The Dash is not set up to easily roll while folded, though I suspect that it could with a little MacGyvering.

Also, the bikes tip left when folded, so I've been looking to identify a simple means to remedy that.

The throttle operates from speed zero; the bike starts rolling when you depress the throttle whether you are on the bike and ready, or not. I haven't scoped out whether the throttle provides greater power / speed at higher PAS settings.

I really like the response of the torque-sensing controller. When you press on a pedal, it doesn't spend a whole lot of time thinking about what you might want to do; I think it's a pretty organic sensation overall.

We carry the bikes in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, so that's our "cover". I'm going to add a couple of discrete pads on the handlebar riser and the rear axle bolts to limit chafing when folded. For the present, we've just been using some old bubble-wrap envelopes and cardboard as temporary measures to pad them while they are in the car.

The stock seat is a bit skinny for my bony old-man buns. We swapped in 27.2 mm G3 Thudbuster seat posts with 27.2 x 33.9 adaptors; they actually weighed a bit less than the stock seat posts.

I miss having bells and mirrors, so those will be coming soon. Oh, and there's no water-bottle mounting bosses on the frame.

So I got mine today and it's a great bike. The build quality and features are insane. Honestly my only complaints are I wish it was more powerful as it's not the greatest when going up super steep hills, although I'm not sure what bikes are since this is my first eBike (Rad mini 4 coming on Monday), and the speed controller isn't very accurate. Sometimes you have to press the buttons more than once to get the assist levels to work. I think it's more of they have to be pressed in the middle very hard but there were times I pressed the button like 3-4 times to get it to switch from pedal assist 1 to 2, or 3 to 4 etc. I was riding it around my hilly area and it was FLYING but the steep hills in assist 5 are still pretty tough but maybe that's normal, also keep in mind I'm 220. I'll see when I get my Rad Mini 4 with 750w rear hub motor. This thing is SMOOOTH though. I mean I was flying down my streets, up and down, great ride, looks fantastic, build is fantastic, I even love the seat. Right now I'm still in the try before buy mode but everything is screaming at me to keep it but I do want to see how powerful the Rad Mini 4 and Aventon Sinch feel before I make up my mind (1 is going back). I guess I also wish it had more gears but I already knew what I was getting when I ordered it. If I do end up returning this I'll probably end up going with the Aurora Limited since I am in love with the quality of Evelo. I just gotta figure out where I can store it.

A quick note about folding. It's not really easy to move around when folded. Yes it's lighter than a lot of the other folders but it still leans to the battery side when the battery is inside of it. That being said I can fit 2 of these inside my Crosstrek hatchback. It doesn't quite roll like the GoCycle does but you can pack it up nice and neat and fit it almost anywhere.

Any questions feel free to ask. I only rode it for 3-4 miles as a quick test ride. Added an electric horn/bell but it's terrible and sounds very obnoxious lol. Gonna have to get a regular bell.
 
I think the PAS setting buttons might respond better to being pressed just a bit longer. I can't swear to it though, as events around here just haven't supported doing as much riding as I'd like these past few weeks.

Having watched my wife perform several "low-speed unplanned dismount maneuvers" on the bikes, I might just go with reducing the gearing and keeping the top speeds down as we're getting to the age where we just don't heal like we used to.
 
Just went on a nice little night ride here in NY and it's nice and cool out and perfect for a ride. The one thing I'll reiterate is this isn't the bike for you if you use throttle a lot. If you like to just pedal and use the assist the bike is fantastic. From assist 1 to 5, the power just comes out of nowhere and makes you feel invincible and it's super sporty. Definitely had a bit more fun tonight and got to test out the headlight which is very impressive as well.
 
SRTtoZ did you talk to evelo about the throttle? maybe it is pas limited but that would mean level 5 pas would give you full throttle
curious to hear what they say on that

MainlyCivil have you noticed this issue with your throttle? and on another topic are you still thinking about going to a nexus 5 speed now that you have more riding?
 
Any recommendations on bell and placement location for use on the Dash? Picture would be appreciated! Thank you.

We are going to give it more time and more riding before making a decision on the gearing. Unfortunately, some other events around here just haven't allowed us enough time to do much riding. As I mentioned above, having watched my wife perform several "low-speed unplanned dismount maneuvers" on our bikes these past several years, I might just go with reducing the gearing and keeping the top speeds down as we're getting to the age where we just don't heal like we used to.

We haven't really used the throttle much when riding. I've had my wife use the throttle a couple times when she is riding the bike just to help her get started on a slight uphill stretch as she's not an experienced rider. But she only used it to help her get rolling, so I don't really have any more observations on it.

I agree that Evelo would be the best resource. Before ordering, I asked a number of questions by email and they were always very responsive. I'll be interested to see what anyone posts about the throttle.

Yea I've been in communication with EVELO the whole time. Their customer service is A tier and up there with Rad maybe even better when it comes to answering emails in a timely manner. After having the Dash and Rad Mini 4 for a few days now it's pretty aparent that the Rad is more powerful but it's supposed to be since it's rated at 750w compared to 350. I just thought maybe they would be closer in power due to the Dash being mid drive and a solid amount of torque but the throttle is much punchier on the Rad Mini. The fit and finish, build quality and overall experience with the Dash is so good for a folding bike. The hidden battery, how small it is, how much lighter it is (than the Rad Mini) is much more noticable now after having them both for a few days since I folded and carried both. The Dash is just a smaller bike with smaller tires but not in a bad way. It's just thinner with better lines but of course you're paying 2-3x the price of the Rad Mini. I swear if this had the 500 or 750w Dapu motors they have on their other bikes like the Aurora Limited it would be the PERFECT bike for me. Overall I'm very impressed with Evelo as a company. Right now I'm thinking I'll keep the Rad mini 4 as my foldable and send this back and trade up for the Aurora Limited since it meets my power needs and I still get that A+ customer service, build quality, fit and finish and much better gearing with the CVT.

This motor is probably PERFECT for anyone that is 150-175lbs but at 220 it just doesn't have enough throttle for comfort. The funny thing is I don't even plan to really throttle much but I like it for it's emergency use like if you're just too tired to do anything else or if you want to cargo some stuff around on the back or in your backpack. The pedal assist is killer though and the only drawback is you only have 3 gears so not much to choose from if you're going up steep hills where the throttle doesn't work great for higher weights.

Oh btw I bought one of those rechargeable electronic bells that changes tune and I had no issues finding space for that and an iPhone holder on the handlebars. The bell is take it or leave it but the phone holder which is the Gub Pro 3 is HIGHLY recommended.

I agree, if they had a bigger motor or the option of the bigger motor I would have bought one as soon as they were available plus an extra battery

For me this bike would have a very niche place in my stable of hauling a heavy trailer but needing a folding bike
The only thing holding me back was the motor

I am happy to hear the Dapu mid drive works well, is smooth etc
Not much feedback on those yet

Yea it's such a shame though because I keep looking at it in my living room folded up and I'm in awe of how great it looks and feels and I know they were trying to save weight but would an extra couple of pounds hurt? Or maybe it's more than that and it had to do with the size interfering with the belt drive and transmission? Like I said earlier on pedal assist this thing rocks and you especially feel it in PAS 1 compared to the Rad Mini where PAS 1 barely helps you. It was confusing to me when switching between bikes because on one bike Pedal Assist 1 was enough but on another I had to kick it up higher (the Rad) but on steep hills the Rad would just crush on higher assist AND throttle where you had to work harder on your Dash. I wish I had unlimited funds because I would definitely keep the Dash just for fun but I'd rather use that money towards the Aurora Limited where I get all the EVELO quality and still get the 750-1000w motor and a better transmission. I just have to find out where to store it lol. I'm moving soon so this will give me motivation to move sooner and find somewhere I can keep the bike like a Townhouse with a garage. If I lived in an area with less hills like Florida I would keep the Dash 100% and not think twice about it but man the Hudson Valley is exactly what it sounds like.

I just think most folders are not designed for what we want, they are short/last mile bikes and nobody designs them different
The smaller battery in the frame would also be more of an issue with the bigger motor but I would be happy buying a second one

is the aurora also a dapu mid drive? On some or all? of the shimano you can change out to the bigger motor, the bolt ups are the same
I wonder if that would be possible on the dash

please tell evelo all of this because if they made another option with the bigger motor and a 5 speed I would buy it right away

cannot wait to hear what you think of the sinch and the aurora
