Enviolo Charger3 GT, hard to turn under load

Hello,

Ive been always derailleur used, but now i use enviolo hub in my bike.
i noticed that when i pedal strongly or if motor is engaged, its really hard to turn the enviolo shifter, is it like this by design ?
In order to make a turn i need to stop pedaling for a while for smooth turn operation.

I have the NuVinci (Enviolo) N360 on my Evelo, and yes, when pedaling hard the shifter is difficult to twist. It is not a problem on turns but when approaching a hill I ease up on the pedals briefly and shift down as necessary. If you wait too long and start the uphill climb before downshifting you will slow down considerably.

It is like this by design as you said, rest assured it not a flaw with your ebike.
In fact, you are supposed to stop pedaling for a 1/4 sec and turn your enviolo shifter at the same time, then start your move again.
When you get used to the method, it feels natural and you don't think about it again while changing speed.
This is how I proceed on my multicharger.

It is all about the torque you are applying to the pedals with your legs. If you practice shifting when your feet and pedals are at 12 and 6 o'clock and just hesitate for as brief a moment as you can while shifting it will work best. You are naturally applying the least amount of force at that point in the cycle and the most when the pedals are at 3 & 9. You don't have to stop pedaling just ease up on the force for a moment while you are shifting.

It takes a little practice but it will be come something you eventually do without even thinking about it. It is the same with Rohloff hubs by the way.

ok i see, not so nice for both enviolo and rohloff, i guess that's why those systems are not so useful in emtb riding right ? too much thinking, less interesting for quick decisions on the road

Although it is true you are supposed to ease out a bit when shifting, if the shifting is unusually hard, it could be because of bad cable adjustment too.
I suggest you get/review the cable adjustment procedure and go through it, to be sure that this part is optimally setup.
