Elderly and new to Electric-Bike's

Norwin, go to the Rad Power web site. You’ll get all your answers. They took the $200 tariff off. If you buy 2 they take an extra $200 off. Delivered free. I have called and emailed them and got prompt answers, no waiting. In the park were we spend the winter there are 4 Ebikes, all Rad. My dad saw mine and he is selling his Ebike when he gets home and buying a Rad.
Oops! Just reread your OP and see you are in the Caribbean. My Rad Power outlet only sells in the USA. Sorry, but good info for others.

I think what you meant to write is that your RAD POWER out let ONLY WORKS in the USA?

If this is what you meant, it should also work on our island, as our island uses the same electrical as in the USA.

On the q

On the question I raised in my wanting to know the PRICE for the bikes -

Even your response is confusing, is it two hundred off per each bike? Or, two hundred off for both bikes combined?

And, the same for the two hundred off for the tariff?

Is that per bike or two?

Simply, as i had asked these companies - why not respond IN WRITING as to the price for the two bikes delivered to our freight forwarder in Miami?

Then, I don't have to guess as to what is right.

One can later say, if told me by international telephone, one could assume I heard incorrectly, or they spoke incorrectly, but if the final price is in writing, we both know what the price is...when we read it, as THIS IS YOUR DELIVERED PRICE - as received, MIAMI.

Ya know what I mean???

I don't quite understand the resistance to work something out with Bill's. Other than an unfortunate experience with a single person.
You will need assistance at some point, making a local contact/shop invaluable. Especially important, in my opinion, if you choose hydraulic disc brakes over cabled disc brakes. BUT that's me, and as always there are other opinions.
Best of luck,

T

Tom,

I guess it seems logical from a distance. Yes, I do understand your view.

Here on the island, it's not necessarily - logical.

And, this is why we purchase so much from off island. Rather than locally.

Believe me, it is what it is, for a reason.

Did you look at their web site $200 off the price of 2 bikes. Shipping is free to the lower 48, I assume that includes Miami. They have an 800 number call them or just email them. I’m trying to help you out but I caint do all of your shopping ;)

Hi Bill,

Of course, you are correct.

I should write. Which I did.

And, they should respond in writing, which ALL did not.

Those that did reply, Bill, now moved onto the final selection. Those that did not. Did not.

With each step; each day, it's nearer the finish line.

Now...planning on where i am going to ride the first afternoon. And, all now goes into what seems like a Christmas morning - a very long, long time ago.

Ya know?

With friendship, Norwin

Since it sounds like you have made a decision and are ready to place an order, do you mind sharing with us what you decided on? I hope you will be happy with whatever you are getting and will have as much fun as I have had with my ebike.

Hi Alan,

I am waiting for both companies to reply with a final DELIVERED price.

Both bikes are reasonably similar.

Once I receive a final price, from both, I will know which to purchase.

And, why I earlier wrote, perhaps, I just need be a wee bit more patient -

Uggghhhh....

Yes, when I think back on my USVI experiences, you make a good point. And after all, it's your best choice that matters. Knowing how an eBike changes my daily routines, I'm excited for you. It will be like Crimbo morning!

Thomas,

Wouldn't ya know it...

One of the Bike companies CEO' to whom I wrote some weeks ago, as I was really interested in his bikes, just answered me this morning, suggesting and recommending his companies bikes.

Tom, I hate to say it, but they too are interesting.

Yes, so many bikes are darn similar. It's as though they are made by the same company - with the same components. Just a slightly different frame structure. Or, the way the battery is mounted. And, possibly a different saddle. But, otherwise, really, really similar.

All further adding to this confusion, huh?

I know it's my decision, I only wish there someone on this forum who would help in nailing this down.

Norwin

Never mind. I was just trying to be helpful in that forum members with experience with the companies you are considering could provide some valuable advice. But if you want to keep it confidential, that is your call.

It would've helped it you had specified what models and components you were looking at, but - yes, some components can be the same. Many non-power components like gears, wheels, tires and saddle come from the same dozen or so makers, except for unknown Chinese imports that could contain all kind of cloned parts of any level of quality.

Electrical parts can be the same too. Nearly all geared hub motors in bikes under $2,200 are by the same two brands.

In batteries there is a lot of diversification, not just the way it's mounted. There are few common shapes of battery casing, and when it looks the same, it doesn't meant it is the same - the inside cells are different. Even when both the shape and specs are the same, it could be not the same quality.

Slightly different frame means this is a different bike that may differ in frame quality and comfort. And so is the way how battery is mounted - this often means a different frame and/or different battery shape. I haven't even started on differences like inside frame wiring, type of brakes, lights, number of PAS magnets, walking mode etc, - there are no details to go on.

If I could only drop over to your house this afternoon and we could have a long conversation on this same subject, I would be 'ever so grateful'.

I believe out of respect, we could private email each other, ok?

@Norwin ,

Folks publicly discuss companies here all the time. If you later decide you don't want the posts here, you are always free to delete your own posts. You can even delete the entire thread any time you want to, since you are the original poster.

It's up to you, of course. :)

Some forum members won't correspond privately because it is so time consuming to answer individual emails from a lot of people, while doing it publicly can be helpful to many people. Your situation, for example, relates to that of other folks who don't live near stores where ebikes are sold. :) Also, do keep in mind that all advice is from individual people who might be doing their best for you, but none of us is YOU! :)

There is nothing wrong in publicly discussing/comparing two or more bikes when they are somewhat similar.

Often such a discussion finds quite lot of differences - which may or may not be important to the OP. You could get a bike with same motor (very likely), similar battery (not the same), similar display, similar frame, and it would behave distinctly differently and/or will be a different quality from the other one. Online forums can only help so much. Nothing beats seeing it in flesh, taking a test-ride and discussing with a knowledgeable store attendant. Especially when you don't have enough experience to draw conclusions by just reading the specs.

Of course, you are correct.

When I make my decision, I shall be (thrilled) to tell everyone on the forum what I purchased for my Mrs. and myself.

And, why...

I will also try to post photos, if I learn how to do that, too.

Yes, it it may even be quite silly at my age, however, I am seriously excited about giving myself this gift. And, I am anxious to have it. Ride it. And, report back.

In fact, I cannot now remember when I was more excited...with something I was about to open and have as a gift.

My respects,

Norwin

You will enjoy it. (Subject to possible nervousness/imbalance when riding it after many years).

When there is no traffic, the road is smooth and you don't want to break any sweat, hitting the throttle and using ebike as a silent scooter is fun.

Other than that, - mechanical maintenance is an ongoing thing. You will have to do this, or you need a mechanic.
