Easy motion motor maintenance

Mtnm - I think most bikes with a traditional drive train, including e-bikes, should not be left on it's right side, as it is very easy to bend the derailleur hanger or cause other drive train issues.

I didn't mean for my comment to be interpreted as laying the bike on the ground, just over to the side. I should have been more specific about this, so sorry for any confusion. :)

When laid over onto it's side (supported), left and right. I wash/hose very carefully from the underside up, and avoid any water at all getting onto the centre of the hub. By doing this, there is no chance of water getting into of the vulnerable parts. :)

I hope that the above makes sense, but it probably doesn't.

Thanks for the help and information. Hope you'll keep us posted on any additional tips.

Two additional questions:
  1. Any problems with the mud/sand working into the bearing (actually a question about how well sealed the bearings are)?
  2. Which tires are you running? I have trouble with the rear tire slipping off the side of deep dirt ruts left by vehicles.

Hi Mike, I did initially have trouble with sand/mud etc working into the bearings, but I think that most of this was down to how I was washing the bike. I think that I had been forcing muck into places that it might not had otherwise got into. I'm far more careful these days and make a contious effort of staying away from vulnerable parts, which are now just hand cleaned.

Tyre wise, I think that everyone will have their own opinions on this, but I have Panaracer fire XC pro's fitted, and really rate them very highly. Here's a link but it's not to a US website unfortunately. They appear to offer superb traction under all conditions, wear very well, and don't seem to make overly loud road noise. If I do decide to keep the Xtrem, I'll replace with the same again.
