I've seen some smaller wheels with built in hub motors on aliexpress. They tend to be pretty wide, but there should be something that fits. How wide is the front wheel?

My pleasure. Here's a little article on measuring your dropout spacing (https://account.superpedestrian.com...ing is the measure,bike depends on your Wheel.) Once you've got that it should be simple enough to find a wheel that will fit. Then you'll need a motor controller, battery, and at minimum a throttle of some kind.

aliexpress. whoa. what a rabbit hole. It was hard to remember the mission.
My dropouts are 100mm. Currently there is a 9 inch tire, but I could try an 8 or 10 as they seem much more numerous. All in the planning stages now. I have ebike with 48volt battery, so I would like to stay at 48 volts. I found https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32837818637.html which has 95 mm space so I think it would fit. After my eyes rest, I will look some more. I thank you for the input. much appreciated.
