DIY adding more lights (turing signals) etc - anyone done this?

Evaluating whether to add a seperate rechargable 12 V system to add in some LED strips, whip light and turn signals or if I can wire it into the existing electrical system. Any experience or advice appreciated!

You could wire it into your ebike battery but that has risks, like blowing up your controller so your ebike is effectively a brick...I opted for rechargeable lights because of this. You can always get a 12V power bank and power all the accessories you are going to add off of that; I saw a build like that and I think its way safer then the latter.

I would recommend a separate system... simple and effective.

If I were in a creative mood it wouldn't be that hard to tap into the bike's 48v system. The problem at that point is there's not much designed to run on 48v. From there, you can get an inexpensive DC to DC converter to drop that 48v down to something more usable - like 12v. Something like this would give you up to 10 amps/120watts. You would probably want to tap into the bikes wire harness below the battery, maybe at the point where the battery rack plugs into the power wires leading to the controller.

I bought a helmet with lights including turn signals. Operates from helmet, app on phone or controller on handle bar. Easier to see lights on helmet. There is another helmet, not mine , where turn signal operated from apple watch when you make appropriate signal with arm.

Just plug it into the charging port! Simple and very effective. I did that and have 3 headlights, all rated up to 60 volts, and I can light up the beach or golf course when I take night rides!

thanks all - didnt end up adding the turn signals but wired in extra LEDs for the front and rear with good outcome - wired off the battery with a 48-12V converter, added an ATV whip light to the back too - a bit over the top but when carrying kidos I felt I would rather be safe even if a bit ridiculous...
