Cycling Classic Helmet Visor Brim

I have seen some bicycle riders wearing big rim visors. How helpful are they?

Wife has the full-circumference Da Brim, and I have the forward-only. Kinda dorky-looking but highly recommended if you dislike unwanted light in your eyes or want the shade or sun protection. Very secure without adhesives.

Putting "da brim" in the forum search function should take you to my initial report with photos.

It is a bit too dorky for me; I manage that on my own, so my comprise is a cycling cap under the helmet. Not sure which is worse (from a looks perspective) to be honest, but when touring one can get away with a lot :)

I'm often bothered by side sun glare during early morning & late evening rides. I can see where this visor would help. It would also keep the sun off your ear tips as well. It wouldn't work with my helmet mounted mirror though.

I upgraded my old Fox helmet with a fixed visor to Bell Sixer MIPS. I like the option with the Bell Sixer with the sun visor that can raised/lowered as needed. I have the helmet visor mounted rear view mirror I can quickly adjust as needed.

Yeah, my old eyes hate sun glare from any direction. Also get it off the ocean when riding near the coast. Plus, bright skylight washes out the scenery. Together, polarized sunglasses and the brim help a lot.

Turns out I need at least a temporary helmet mirror for my upcoming extended new bike trial. I won't ride without a mirror, and the dealer doesn't want to cut the grips to mount a bar-end mirror till I commit to keeping the bike.

Fair enough, so I just spent all of 2 seconds removing my Da Brim to mount the mirror when it arrives today.

Putting the brim back on is a little fiddly as I recall, but there's a chance that the retention band might go over the mirror's mounting arm. Fingers crossed.

My wife and I (and several friends) have the Salamander Beak visor ($25 on Amazon) on several helmets and find it very helpful.
Another option I will do on occasion is a baseball cap under the helmet if a rear shade brim is needed.

I have been using one of the big rim visors this year. I wish I had been using it the last ten years considering the recent knife play by dermatology. For the one I use…hard hat type…I needed a rim/visor to secure the the big rim so was forced use older helmet. For this reason I’m ordering a brim. But I like the sun-shading…I’m cooler on the neck and free from the glare. I’ve put the other one (two Pack) on a ball cap. I do wear a cycling cap too.

I just bought a new sun visor for my helmet.
My helmet has one, but it's kinda useless,..

keep your speed down or life is going to get interesting.

I would hesitate from wearing a Sombrero, not only cuz I'd look like a dork, but because a big gust of wind might give me whiplash and an updraft might rip my head clean off. 😂

If you're going to build a flying helmet, you need to do some proper research first,..

I'm thinking about getting a pet Golden Eagle?

They can fly away with an 80 pound deer 🦌!!!

Then again, It's not strong enough to lift me, and it would probably just rip my head off, so maybe I'll start with a homing pigeon in case I get lost after smoking a Vado? 😂

Maybe I can train it to stick it's wings out in front of me to shade my eyes from the sun ☀??

I put a visor on my helmet and it does the job. The part I don't like is unless you keep your head up it blocks the view ahead of you and cause a stiff neck. Maybe a flip up is the solution.

I'm hoping that I can move my helmet around on my head a bit to adjust the visor angle?

Maybe I'll attach it with velcro so I can adjust it?
I've got bolts holding my visor on now, and the replacement has snaps that are going to have to be removed anyway.

Had to remove my front-only Da Brim visor in order to mount a helmet mirror for use on rentals while traveling and found that I won't need it again till the late afternoon sun gets lower in the sky. Then it may well go back on.

Having given up on the Tour de France, the aerodynamics are a non-issue despite the appearance. Doesn't budge or pull on my head at all on 32-36 mph descents or in equivalent head and side winds.

As we find so often in this complicated world, things that seem obvious don't always work out that way in real life.

Wearing a brim like that is inadvisable if you ever play poker with Trinity.
