Planning on moving to costa rica this winter. Would love to take our ebikes with us or rent some there. Does anyone have experience shipping ebikes or have any other ideas.

You can use a freight forwarder. We've done this for several of our out of the country customers. It seems to be the most cost effective solution as traditional shipping methods can run you well over $800 and freight forwarding can come in at half that.

Sounds like a great trip have you been there before? My friend and I did a tour around Costa Rica a couple of years ago. I would love to go back with an ebike. Please keep us posted on the trip and how it works out. It's really a beautiful country.

Yes we are in love with this country. The culture and the people are what we like best.
We have not biked there but hope to venture on bikes to some cool places. This our third trip there should be the best.

I am trying to bring an electric bike on the flight to San Jose but they tell me the battery can not be in checked in luggage with the bike. Did you have any trouble shipping yours with the battery and who do you recommend for freight forwarding?

Depending on the size, Lithium Ion Batteries cannot be checked, but must be in carry-on. However, there may be amp/hr limitations. ask your airline.

Lithium batteries are limited to 100Wh in size by the FAA. So that rules out most all ebike batteries.

Grin technologies has some new 100wh stackables. You can take two or three on the plane individually then stack and get a 300wh pack.

Interesting, @grench; that's a clever solution. Have to look into those stackable battery units and see just how that works and how you'd connect it to an already existing system.
