Converting a Yuba Mundo Cargo bike to electric...

I have the bike shown in the title of this post and I am thinking about converting it to electric.

There is a local shop that can add the 2017 BionX D500 DV to my cargo bike but I know next to nothing about what is good about any electric system. Does anyone have an opinion about this system and it's use on a cargo bike that often has an extra 1oolbs on it above my weight?

Many thanks,
Andrew

Andrew, the BionX D500 has a lot of torque along with regenerative braking which will help a bit with your range. These are durable systems that have been in production for several years and BionX has great support. I've found their batteries to have a good lifespan. Another option would be to install some sort of mid drive motor system. If you're going to have a lot of weight in the back of the bike, a mid drive system will help balance the weight distribution. Either way you will have a lot more fun with a utility bike when it's powered :D

Grin has the Stoke Monkey mid drive setup for Yuba. Unfortunately their 20% off sale just ended....

As Ann says a mid drive helps to balance the weight distribution and also feeds in to your bikes drive train to utilize the range of gearing. Also Grin's products are not proprietary so going forward any advancements, especially in regards to battery technology, can be taken advantage of.

Thanks for your replies! I have little knowledge of these systems so I may just stick to the one that I can get installed and supported locally. Good to hear that it can handle a heavier bike.
