Recently 2020 D3 became erratic while riding with my Pixel 8 Pro connected to the USB port with a charging (not data) cable. Issues included: Intermittent failure to change pedal assist levels; Pedal assist levels changing without warning, including dropping to 0; and unintentional acceleration even if the bike was parked.
The problem was the phone pulling too much current from the USB port. My theory is the USB port is poorly regulated which in turn crates stress on the control circuit.
I tested this theory on a different 2020 D3 with the same results.
Recommend not using the USB port. While most symptoms are benign, unexpected acceleration could be dangerous.
