Can't Get My New Urtopia Bike to Work

See... now isn't that a tad better than "I'm not puttin' my butt on it."?... and ten fold better than "A carbon e-bike for as little as two grands cannot work." type of post. Especially when someone comes looking for help from those supposedly more knowledgeable?
I've always approached forums as a place to exchange information and help each other.
I have no use for the never ending "look at me, what I have and how great I do things" type on here that troll for opportunities to demonstrate their perceived superiority. Especially when imo they live in a very small and ignorant bubble.
But hey, I'm not the EBR police... I'm just a ball_bustiń a$$ of a different sort 🙃

I had a conversation with the mechanic who set these bikes up. Here are some important points.

His opinion is that these bikes are in the early stages of development, so some things that you might expect from a more prominent e-bike maker may not be there, at least in June of 2025. We expect the firmware/software to improve over time.

The phone app is the main security system for the bike. The bike cannot be started without being paired to a unique phone app installation. This has several consequences. If you don't have the paired phone next to the bike, it will not start. If you have more than one of these bikes in the same household, each must be paired to a unique phone. Each phone app can only be paired to one bike. If you paired your bike to your phone, and switched the pairing to another bike, your original bike will be disabled. If you look at it from a security perspective, it makes sense.

If you have one bike and one phone app, they have been paired, and the bike has been ridden in the past, and you cannot start the bike, it is most likely because the pairing has been lost. We had a customer in for this issue yesterday. What you have to do is pair it again manually. This can be done through the app. There should be a section to "pair manually". Make sure that your bike and phone are charged up. Once the bike is paired to the app again, you should be able to start the bike. You may have to register your fingerprint again as well. If that doesn't work, you'll have to either work with Urtopia or take it to a dealer.

Good luck.

I'm all for tech... but I also don't like it forced on me. Not that I would ever buy this particular bike anyway but requiring a phone to use your bike is nothing I'd be interested in.
In this age of brazen crime.. a savvy thief will know he needs to steal my phone as well. Though it'll probably deter most I guess.

Hmm… I’m on the fence. I always have my phone with me when I’m riding, so it would pretty much be a non-issue. But, this does feel over-the-top to me. Maybe it’s defeatable in the software.

Assuming that you are near the bike. I think that this system is like the Bosch e-lock. It's for when you are away from the bike, rendering it "useless" to a thief. Until someone fakes it out, at least.

I should mention that one (great) thing that Juiced did toward the end was to put a hidden location in the battery for an Apple AirTag. Perhaps this is not useful as an anti-theft device because it’s completely stealth, but it might help in a) knowing that your bike has been stolen, and b) recovering it. I’ll stop commenting now because theft is not an issue for me where I live/ride.

Curious... Can the bike be riden away without power? Or does it also implement some type of mechanical lockout?
A thief will take the bike and worry about making it work afterwards.. especially if he's unaware of the particulars here.

No built-in mechanical lock that I'm aware of. I had one on the lift yesterday to repair a twisted derailleur cage, and the bike was off. I saw nothing resembling a mechanical lock. I believe that all security functions are electronic. Even with the bike off, the head unit sends a location ping via cell, for tracking. Like a built in AirTag. I believe that it can be tracked by the app.
