Can An EBike Travel On A Bike Rack In The Rain?

What a positive and useful contribution to the discussion...NOT. And what the heck is an "optinion" anyway, the opposite of an optoution?

Yeah I appreciate that. To me a low end ebike is an Ancer or something you can buy for $900. I don't consider a Biktrix in that category but whatever. I'm not here to get defensive about the make of my bike, it's been good to me.

I guess I have just been lucky. My bike has traveled thousands of miles uncovered on a rack behind my truck or travel trailer through all sorts of weather. I have ridden it through rain, sand, mud, streams, and flooded paths. I don't cover anything and leave the battery in it. I occasionally wash it down with a garden hose and wipe it dry with a cotton rag. I use an off the shelf lubricant called Superslick on the chain about once a month and air up the tires when they start feeling soft. I can't believe everything still works!

This topic comes up a lot, but I do not recall ever reading a post about an ebike being damaged by rain, but then my memory is not what it once was.

Geesh. You don't think these things are built to handle rain and the elements, do you? Here I thought they were precision instruments like my camera....

Soooooo, does that mean I should cover my bike with a tarp? On a side note I have not experienced this wonderful customer service Biktrix is known for. The fact that the chat could not answer my question about the rain and I never got the promised call back is yet another example. But I do like the bike and am still convinced I got the best bike for my needs and my $2,000 budget.

That's Biktrix for you... Their so called reputation is from a small handful of people (employees) that constantly repeat the same thing anytime trouble arises on forums

I just never had that experience. I still have a major issue with a part return but I don't want to air my dirty laundry here.

I believe Biktrix can and does provide value added services to their local hometown clients like any LBS.

The problem is when they mail order for more monies to buyers that are unlikely to ever bother them in-person.

Given that ebikes range in price from CDN$1,000 up to CDN $15,000 Biktrix is not a high end bike nor even a mid range bike.

Biktrix bikes are Chinese built bikes offered by a good North American Company that adds substantial value with service, brick and morter operations, parts and a responsive team that stands behind the bikes way better than the fly by night, here today, gone tomorrow website warehouse model that offers similar bikes at lower prices with little or no support. Biktrix price point on their similar bikes is higher because they have a far better service team not because they build the bike that much better.

What matters when it comes to extra steps taken to make a bike more resistant to damage and corrosion by rain the water ingress actually using better materials, component that cost more and are designed with greater protection must be used, not just a higher price charged.

The real difference is readily apparent if you compare the durability of a Specialized, Trek or European made mountain bike, subjected to hard, dirty, wet use, to that of a mountain bike built in China. This is not to say any of the above are trouble free, but a better built, and costlier bike, built to the more stringent standards required by the EU will likely also be more durable and not as troublesome.

I think specialized, trek, and european bikes are all built in China as well. Just to a higher standard

I like my truck bed for bike transport. Keeps it up nice and high. I wrap a ziplock around the electric control, and tie a garbage bag around the motor. Cheap and keeps the electics dry.

Though my bike has a yamaha pwx motor, so pretty well built

I traveled back from vacation in a 3 hour rain storm. Prepared bike the day before. Had zero problems. Plastic and waterproof gorilla tape
