Calipers That Will Not Adjust Straight

It's 4:20
I just thought of something,..

This rotor is safer,..

It's got more of a blunt edge.

Mechanical discs out in the world are almost always setup wrong, or do not work right. Start with the caliper floating.
1) Ditch the O-rings.
2) Set the inner pad all the way in so the brake is locked.
3) Have the lever arm almost fully extended.
4) Back out the inner pad adjustment four clicks.
5) Tighten the barrel adjuster by 5mm.
6) Strap-on the lever.
7) Tighten down the caliper.
8) Loosen the barrel adjuster to the point where it almost rubs.
9) Tighten the inside pad to where it almost rubs.

I'm posting this here as a continuation of my brake caliper alignment issues,..

I've got new caliper bolts to reinstall the caliper without the washer spacers,..

So,..

Here's some big ole pictures I took,.. 😁

I flipped my bike over to take pictures of the rotor and the caliper with its stuck piston,..

I left the wheel installed and operated the brake lever with my foot. 😁

Tiny bit of toe pressure,..

A bit more brake lever movement,..

I think you need a brake bleed.

Do you know what would be Even Better??!!!

A Brand New Caliper !!!

I may as well replace the whole damn thing if I need a complete rebuild and bleed ??

That might inspire me to actually get my damn brakes fixed. 😁

I found these Tektro 4 Piston Brakes, but I'm not sure if I need the front or rear caliper/lever combo ??

Is that not the exact same lever and caliper, except the lever got flipped over, so the only difference is what side the decal is on ??

Am I missing something here??

I've got my front brake on the left side now after swapping the levers (or just the hoses? I forget what I did. 😄)

I don't know which set to buy ?
Does it even matter ??

The clamp bolt would either be above or below the bars.
Maybe above is better as it's more accessible ?

EDIT: No brake switches on those brakes.
I need my brake switches.

I don't know if I can connect my current brake levers to 4 piston calipers ?
The 4 piston calipers might need more fluid pumped with a full stroke of the brake lever ??

I don’t think you have to use that particular lever. I wonder if you can put a hydraulic hose into any lever. UNLESS one of the 2 is proprietary.

I'd give what you got a cleaning. If dust is a problem where you ride then consider rinsing off the calipers (and stanchions) on return home. Maybe wash the bike more often as well.
If you do replace them, you may end up with the same problem down the road if grit is the culprit.

on the pictures we see a sticky piston

Yeah, you're right.
I don’t need a new caliper. I just need to unstick my stuck piston.
I just realized that I've got two identical calipers on my other ebike that I can use if I make a mess of this one.

I did actually wash my ebike for the first time this year just after I took the pictures of the dust.

I broke another rear rack, so I deleted it.

I'm not carrying any tools now except my multi-tool in my pocket.
I carry $50 cash with me now instead. Hopefully I can flag someone down who can give me a ride home.
Half the vehicles I see are pickup trucks that might be willing to give me a lift.

If you want to give a rack one more try... Look into the seat post mount MTX Beamrack.
I'm loving mine and not adding unsprung weight is a suspension game changer. The possible downside is wheel/fender clearance

I remember that beam rack, and I'll keep it in mind, but I've been e-biking since November 2022 and carried all kinds of tools and supplies, but only ever used a few zip ties a couple times.

I did get a flat tire once, but that was my fault when the rim tape slipped and a spoke hole in the rim put hole in the tube.
My compressor came in really handy that day, but I'm sure that I could have flagged down a ride if need be.
If fact, someone did approach me and ask if I needed help.

So I'm sure that I'll be able to find my way home if the need arrises.

Another potential issue is the amount of seat post that I have available to add a beam rack,..

I don’t know if I've got enough room??

I can't really raise the seat any higher. I'm already on my toes when I stop.

I gotcha... I had to ditch the suspension seatpost as it didn't allow for enough clearance. Fender got in the way on big suspension swings. If I stiffened the suspension with more air it could work but found ditching the suspension post was a better alternative.
My main purpose for the rack is to bring food and water or to pick something up at at the store. Not totally necessary but I find I use it on every ride for one thing or another.
You couldn't pay me to ride with a backpack.
