Bosch Battery Failure After 1st Ride

Hi, New here so not done much searching yet on this. Just purchased an Orbea Keram Max 20 (29er) with Bosch motor and setup below. When I received the bike it had almost full charge. Took it out on a 20 mile ride, few hills and along road and bridleway, some light puddles and dirt. When I got back display showed 1 bar left on battery. I switched off bike, lightly washed bike with warm water making sure I didn't put loads over motor and battery area, dried and then took battery out to charge. Battery charged for about 3 hours, top bar on battery was flashing when I took it off charge. I re-installed battery in bike (still had lubrication on contacts) and bike is dead. Doesn't power on, took battery out to try and reset, does nothing, no led lights, no response to reset sequence and won't charge. Bike is going back to dealer for diagnostics, can't see any dirt on contacts but don't want to take anything apart. Anyone experienced similar or same?

Yeah it's totally dead, on and off the bike, no LED's, reset button doesn't work, won't charge on or off the bike. Only used once and recharged once. Cheers

Sorry to hear you have a dud. I have 4 of those powerpacks and never had a problem. At least you can rest easy knowing Bosch will replace it gratis.

I never wash my eBikes, just a damp rag with constant rinsing of the rag. Time to take yours back to the dealer. I had one of those 400wh battery packs that didn't like to initiate. Learned about pushing the battery button after turning on the bike. It did that for about 3 months, and hasn't done it now for at least 6-8 months. I have 3 Bosch powered eBikes, love the system.

My Bosch battery failed after about five months. I bought a 2019 Haibike Nduro Xduro 3.0 in December 2019, rode it about 500 miles, maybe 20 times and the bike stopped working. Took the bike into the dealer and they said the battery failed, but they said Bosch refused to replace it under warranty even after them being on the phone with the Bosch rep for over a half hour. I've been stranded for over three months now. I've exchanged emails with Bosch reps and they have refused to honor their warranty to replace the battery, (500 watt Vertical Powertube). I do not know what to do.

The dealer you purchased it new from should pony up and honor the warranty. It’s on them to recover the cost and get reimbursed by Bosch. That said I suspect we’re missing details...

@Thomas Jaszewski is correct. In the circumstances you describe, the dealer should step up. However, this does not sound like the way Bosch typically handles things.

Please provide step by step details. Was the bike new when you bought it? Was it from an authorized dealer for the brand? What rationale was given for the refusal?

I bought a new Trek Allant +9.9s in March. After 300 miles of riding, two weeks later, it started making a rhythmic scratchy noise. I took it in to the dealer where I bought it and they diagnosed it as a motor problem. Three days later they received a replacement motor from Bosch and replaced the motor. The noise did not go away. It turned out to be a failing clutch in the hub. The new motor was not needed but is still in my bike.

This does not sound like the same company at all. What is the rest of the story?

Did you have an aftermarket tuner box on it at any time? Hack the magnetic sensor location? If they did a computer diagnostic, pretty sure they can detect the tuner box.

Bosch provides the warranty. They refused to honor it. So the dealer should eat the cost of an $800 battery ? Excuse me, but how so ? The dealer did not make the defective battery. No small business owner could ever make any manufacturer the size of Bosch 'pony up.' Maybe you are thinking of large multi-property car dealers that sell $40,000 to $90,000 cars, and rake in millions of dollars per year. If I were the dealer, I'd dump my entire Bosch line up. Not worth it to deal with such a consumer raw and un-commercial company.
I'm quite certain there's information lacking here. The biggest single reason my shop gave up on a battery builder/supplier was the builders' refusal to warranty batteries from them. We've stood tall and honored our commitment to a 1-year warranty. The owner I help is a small business, and yes it stings. Can't honor a warranty, don't sell the product. Being in the biz you must know that many bicycle makers will NOT deal with end customers.

What was the reason for refusal of warranty? Maybe you can share more details.

Bosch has a very good warranty policy this doesn't sound like them.

Hello,
Can you please provide more information regarding the reason you were given for the warranty claim being denied? I can look into this for you, but I will need the name of the shop and/or your case number. Both the name of the shop and the case number would be best shared with me via a personal message, rather than publicly on the forum.

We are here to help, but will need more details to move it forward.
