Birdwatching while bike riding!?

OMG! That is just not what I want to turn around and see coming after me . What would've happened if the riders had stopped???

There used to be a lot of emu farmers around where I live and it was reported that the smaller cousin of the ostrich was a pretty mean tempered bird despite it's looks. Sometimes I'd get a little nervous riding past those pastures with big flocks of emus bolting up to the fence line as I'd ride by. Never was sure whether those fences were tall enough to keep them in.

Come on now Ann, he just wants to play too! I've ridden right up to many animals, many times and often it seems they don't know what to make of me on a bike. I've gotten within 10 feet of wild turkeys, before they ran off. Enough deer for a herd. The animal I encountered most out of place here in PA, were two llamas in the middle of the road, and they did not want to move. I called the state troopers. Let me tell you, that was an interesting phone call.

I should've titled this thread: animals gone wild! I was riding challenging dirt farm tracks yesterday with a lot of climbs, in lowest PAS when a huge dog came after me! I kicked it up in the highest PAS and got away. Without an ebike, I'd have been a huge dog chew. I got nothing on this though!

That's happened to me more oft than I care to think about. Got nailed once by a pitbull as a pedestrian.
It was fortunate that I kept my presence of mind.🤪

Even smaller birds can be a threat. The overpopulation of Canada geese is an issue on trails near water. They get aggressive when they have goslings. I've been chased on numerous occasions and have had them try to block my path. I even had one land on my backpack and peck at my helmet on one occasion!

The most bizarre incident I've had though was when a grouse came out of the trailside grass and ran alongside me. I thought it was funny until he took a nick out of my calf!

It can be tough to keep your bike on the trail sometimes with all these wild foul! ;)

Deer are THE deadly menace for me riding my rural roads In Central VA. I rode past an eagle perched on a deer carcass who looked at me as if to say ‘just try to take this’. A friend of mine used to keep an ostrich in a pasture guarding his pot plants. There were times he was afraid to go water.
I stopped yesterday to take a picture of these gentle creatures. Here is where my socks come from

Any goose gets aggressive with me will find itself in a roasting pan.

Not always territorial, some animals, like this little guy, are curious!

I'd like something like a shark bang stick for pit bulls & dobies, but that's a mite extreme, maybe a phaser set on stun.
