Bike Seat

OK so I guess I will retract my endorsement of the Bontrager Comfort gel saddle.

It is still a super comfy saddle but I think it should last longer than it did. To be fair I should not have been lifting the bike by the saddle so if you have one of these types of saddles grab something else when lifting. I have replaced it with this Selle Royale Respiro moderate. It has gel but is a bit firmer than the Bontrager and has a shape that offers more control with your legs. There is also a wind channel to cool your crotch! I have approx 200 km on this one but it seems like a nice balance between sport and comfort and so far I would recommend it highly.

Disclaimer: I am not recommending this as a 40-miler; I'm sure I've never ridden my electric that distance, and I doubt that I would do that to any part of my body. As Mr. Coffee notes, it's a complex question, and he makes good points. I've also learned like others, over the decades, that less is more, but I'm not fanatically minimalist about it either.

Still, so: I like Serfas saddles. Good quality at reasonable prices. I've had a Serfas Performance RX saddle on my Neo Xtrem for most of the six years I've owned it. I don't think of it much on rides, which is good, and my neck starts bothering me before my butt or crotch does. I also had a Performance RX on a Trek DS for 2 or 3 years, but I replaced that one with a ("less-is-more") Serfas Men's Road one. I'm 71, 6'1"/1.85m and ~185-190 lbs/85-86k. I've never liked the RX lettering, but do endorse the RX otherwise. It's not too soft nor wide ("less"), especially important at the nose for me, but it does give me the additional cushion and the support I need on the 50-pounder. Enjoy that Allegheny trail!

I have a Serfas RX and it is one of the saddles in my small collection that I would give passing grade of two cheeks up. Here are some photos comparing the general shapes and sizes of a few of my decent saddles ( I will keep the indecent ones private).

Serfas Rx on the right looks about the same as the Respiro but it feels like my sit bones are at the very outside of where they are meant to perch. Also it feels slightly shorter.

the Bontrager Comfort is like a lazyboy. It is soft and you will not get a sore bum , but will it last? It looks like it just ate the Serfas. I noticed that it has no plastic side protectors which the other two do have.

The Bike came with this Ergon, It is clearly more for speed than comfort . I use it mainly on the Acoustic bike now since that bike is for shorter trips.

The Selle Royal on the left is a speed saddle similar to the Ergon but not nearly as comfy. I would join that saddle club. Trial and error works best.
