Bike Modification

Lectrics have throttles, don't they? You ought to be able to cruise along at 16-18 mph w/o pedalling, faster than many people on 2 wheels.

I see a lot of ebikes that are very fast and do not require peddling. What kind of modifications were done to these bikes and can it be done to a Lectric bike? Thanks
No modifications... Sold as such.
If you need more assistance, especially on hills you may want to look into a bike with a stronger motor and/or a mid drive that makes better use of the gears.

To be fair, the problem kids are probably not riding around on modified Lectrics. They bought their emotorcycles already built. While it is possible to modify an Lectric ebike to be faster and more powerful, why wouldn't you start with a better donor bike if you are going to spend that kind of money? The Grin website is a good place to start if you want to learn about DIY ebikes:

Lectrics, no, but we got at least a dozen generic bike owners trying to book service because the kid watched a YouTube video on how to defeat the speed limit and blew it up. They bring Mom along to pay for the carnage. We charge a diagnostic fee before even booking it in, and there's no guarantee that we can fix it for what they can afford.

Maybe a learning experience for them then. Or maybe not.

Back when I learned to drive, my parents gave me an old car they had sitting in the driveway. A 1969 Chrysler Imperial. They made me get a job to pay for insurance, gas, and maintenance myself. A year later, something broke on the car and the mechanic couldn't get parts for it because it was too old. My parents came through again with an old VW Beetle as a graduation gift. I drove that car for the next six years. I replaced the engine twice and the transmission once and put lots of aftermarket mods on it. I sort of wish I still had the car today, but when I traded it in on a new car I was tired of turning a wrench on it every weekend.

To the OP, just buy your own emoped! I LOVE the Segway Xyber but can't justify buying one for my limited needs. Or save some money and get a Ride1Up Revv. There are a TON of Amazon emopeds on the cheap as well. Modding can be more of a hassle than just buying something already done.

I had a XP 3.0 and it did everything I ever asked of it. Fun, easy to ride and seemed well built. It ended up helping a young man get a job and earn some independence after I gave it away. I have a RadRunner 2 that's ripe for modding but I like it just the way it is, and I ride it like a moped a lot of the time.
