BBS02 chains and gears?

Ok, those with mid-drives, what gearing do you find the best? The chainring that comes with the 8FUN kit is a 46T usually, do any find that a bit too high?

Also what ratios at the back wheel the best? At the minute i have a 14T - 34T 7 speed freewheel with the 46T at the front. Ok for the hills but loosing out on speed maybe?

And what is the best chain out there, especially those of us that have the bbs02 750w with the amount of torque that it has?

Observations and recommendations welcome!!

I changed my chainring originally for a 36t with an adapter but the chainline was awful - I had numerous chain drops. So I went for a 42t bling ring instead (a custom narrow wide BBS chainring) which fixed the chainline and no more chain drops.

I run a 11-32t 9 speed cassette and tend to stay in the top 4-6 gears mostly.

I use a kmc ebike chain.

I have 3 BBS02 mid-drive converted bikes, a MT1000 tandem with 750W 48V, a single with the same setup and a single with 500W 36V. All three bikes have 44T chain ring and 8 gear cassette 11T-28T. The cassettes are Shimano and SRAM(2). I use SRAM PC-850 chain. I rarely go above 18T on the cassette. Haven't had any issue with chains and I find the gearing adequate for all terrain I encounter.

Adrian. A 36T that doesn't require an adapter. (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) They also have a 42 with similar inset to the leckie

Was that 36T a narrow/wide chainring? They supposedly don't lose the chain as easily
No, but the chainline was awful as it wasn't offset like the chainrings designed for the BBS which was made worse by the adapter it required.

I didn't know of this. I heard good things about the other 41T after I bought the Leckie.

My fat bike needed the offset though so the flat 36t, even without an adapter, just wouldn't have been as good for the chainline.

I highly recommend a 14t cassette and large chainring instead of 11t because 11/12t are prone to chainskips under high cadence

For those with a freewheel the sunrace megadrive 13-34 is a good option. 34-28 1st and 2nd gear better than the Shimano mega gear. There are nice wide range alternatives in 8 and 9 speed cassettes. 11-40 available in both.
