Battery pack arcing

We went on a ride that may have been too steep for our bikes. I was using pedal-assist my son may not have been. His hub motor stopped working then we lost power. I removed the battery and went to replace it and the prongs arced at the connection. Could the motor be burned so bad that there is a short? I want to hook his battery up to my bike to make sure it's not the battery but I'm scared I will ruin my bike.

That connector set needs to be replaced in my opinion. Or better yet, eliminated with the installation of something more substantial - like an Anderson connector or maybe an XT90. Both are easily sourced and should handle power without incidents like this.

That said, you already know situations like the one you found yourself in could have been handled a little differently, avoiding the extreme amount of power that got those connections hot enough to melt the plastic.
