Battery Issue

My Brother in law is having issues with the battery on his FREY AM1000. Today with a fully charged battery we went for a ride. When his battery level was at 60% he hit the throttle while pedaling the battery charge level dropped to 0% and everything shut down. After restarting the battery level again showed 60% but when he went to go the battery would instantly drop to zero and shut down. After several attempts to power up it would continusly instantly drop to zero and shut down when attempting to go. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this? Thanks.

I had a similar issue with a Pedego 52V battery. The display showed the battery voltage at 49.0 but the bike would shut down when trying to pedal or use the throttle.

The problem turned out to be a burned battery contact. I fixed it temporarily by cleaning the contacts with a small file. If you attempt this, BE CAREFUL not to short the battery terminals! If the battery has a switch, make sure it's off first!

I eventually took the battery apart and replaced the contacts to keep the problem from reoccurring.

Probably unbalanced, if the contacts are clean.

An unbalanced a battery is when one or more of the internal cells is too high or too low. WHen it's too high, it prevents the other cells from getting fully charged, so you have short life. When it's too low, it is the first to shut down the battery and even if the others indicate 60% or higher charge, the battery has to shut down.

Here's a typical video on battery balancing and how they address it.
