Battery goes to zero, then back up slowly - bad battery, controller or ?

I have a 2017 Crosscurrent 48v with the original 19.5Ah battery.

Previously, ~2 years ago I had an issue where the battery would go to zero & sometimes pop back up. I contacted Juiced, and they said to check the electrical connections. It turned out the 2-prong power port in the bike frame was shorted out. I replaced that & life has been good.

Now, I'm having a similar problem. I've had an "ERROR 30" display a couple of times, but also at other times, the battery level (bar graph) drops to zero, stays empty and then either climbs back up to full or stays empty. Powercycling the battery fixes this temporarily. I can't tell if this is an issue with the controller or the battery.

Given the age, I suspect the battery is the problem but would like other people's opinions.

I've found some similarly sizes batteries on aliexpress (Reention Dorado ID-217 48v-20Ah for $357). I contacted Juiced & they said that the new G2 battery won't fit my model but I've seen other people say it should. All things being equal, I would probably go for a 50v battery if possible (suggestions of alternate sources welcome). I can't seem to find a 52v battery in the L393 size anywhere.

usually its un balanced cells so they balance out when you stop using the battery or a bad cell or more.

Error 30 appears to be linked to communication between the display and controller. Not related to the battery. Check here. There was another user with a similar issue.

A Juiced error 30 means your display cannot either send commands or read data to/from the bike controller. I'm not saying Juiced does this, but some displays (my KT LCD3) will show a blank battery icon when they cannot read the data. In my case, I had a bent (data) pin in the display connector, Fiddling around with connect/reconnect fixed it,

Suggest you do what you can to get rid of the error 30 issue, and expect that the battery icon will stabilize.

Just following up on this - I bought a new 20Ah 48V battery from Huizhou Jinfeng New Energy Technology Co, Ltd ( https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...spm=a2756.trade-list-buyer.0.0.704076e9jq9dWs ). The battery was US$190 and shipping via fedex was $115 for a total cost of $322.18

Shipping was quick(ish). Quality seems high based on 40 miles. Fit & finish shown below.

Replacing the battery eliminated all the issues I mentioned above.

That looks like the 25Ah 48V battery Dorado battery that I bought for my ebike, but I paid A LOT more money for my battery.

The link in your post just lists the cells as Li-ion18650 lithium cells for the 36V battery.
(I didn't download the Alibaba app to check out the 20Ah 48V battery that you purchased.)

I hope you don't have crappy no-name cells in your battery?

My battery has quality brand name Samsung 50E 21700 cells inside.

If you do have no-name cells, there's a good chance that your battery won't last more than a year before your range is drastically reduced and the battery won't take a charge anymore.
(There's also a slim chance that with crappy cells, paired with a crappy BMS, that your battery will burn or blow up.)


Keep an eye on how far you can go on a charge to see if that distance starts reducing rapidly after a bunch of charges.

A cheap battery generally just wears out faster than a battery with quality cells inside.

Let's hope the new battery legislation that is happening everywhere (including China) can at least help to keep your battery safe?

I concur... You can't even buy enough name brand cells to make the pack for $115.
Definitely low grade cells. Be very careful charging.
