Battery charging

Curious what the thoughts are for charging Bosch batteries. In reading the charger manual, that seems to suggest plugging in the charger to wall power first followed by connection to the battery.

My impression is that there is a 5 volt signal between charger and battery that will then open the charge pathway to the llthium cells and turn on the charger output. Is this accurate or somewhat accurate?

As per my previous post... Follow directions first. 🙃
I don't own a Bosch but I've seen several different handshake variables between charger and battery. I've seen batteries that shut down the charge port unless a signal from the charger is received. I've seen charges that don't output until the load from the battery is detected.
I'm sure Bosch implements a functional safe charging scheme so I would follow directions and not worry about it.

I woke up this morning thinking of how I wanted a little gems salad for breakfast, tossed with Point Rayes blue, and bacon. Now I am having serious second thoughts. I don't want any curlies, syrup, or jelly in it. Yesterday I had a watermelon salad tossed with aruglia, mint, and goat cheese. I will go as soon as my battery is charged.

yes the battery is not (on) like most batteries til it gets the signal. one of the good safety features. the bad part is you cant put a volt meter to the battery to tell its level.

you cant put a volt meter
I have a volt meter that plugs into the charge port. A friend gave it to me and now I cannot find them on the internet. It uses a standard 5mm barrel port. It reads to the hundredth of a volt.

The gag reflex ruling will come tomorrow. Maybe come three or four times. Then the tossed salads can be served. I ended up having one today. It was a red butter lettuce floral gem, tossed with red onion, goat cheese, cucumber, and heirloom cherry tomatoes.

There is two different but possibly interchangeable standard 5mm barrel ports.

I just bought a double ended extension to make sure I get the right end.

I can't tell the difference, can you?? 😂

Try measuring the damn pin diameter with half a millimeter of clearance to get in there. 😂

No one knows. Does the battery? A touch of dielectric grease seems to help. The one on the right looks bigger.

I prefer to measure battery voltage at the discharge port. Depending on the BMS, readings taken at the charge port can be flaky.

By choice, all my battery discharge ports use the 4 pin version of these spade connectors:

Voltage readings can easily be taken with the probes of any multimeter but for convenience, I made up a few of these cheap digital gauges that plug directly into the ports:

Using a little epoxy, I fastened a male 4 pin spade connector to the back of the gauge:

I keep one in my pocket when riding, in my battery case, and another next to my charging rig.

The same idea can be used with almost any battery discharge port connector, fastened to the back of one of these gauges:

This is contrary to any battery charging instructions on any of the electric bikes I have owned.
Yeah.
Light wash. I do this after riding my bike in knee deep brackish saltwater puddle.
Not that often.
