BarnBoy’s Realmax SX-13, 8kW eScooter Adventures….

Good job on fixing the display issue. I feel the scooters are just a bit safer than an EUC in some circumstances, and more dangerous in others. My other PEVs have been sitting mostly since getting my e-bikes. I just feel safer on the bikes, and don't need crazy speed. I need range and cargo capacity, love not carrying a backpack way more than I thought. Old age I think. I'd need less cargo room if the batteries were bigger on the bikes. My several mini segway (mini pro) is used mostly for runs to the garbage bins now and a few times this year for 20-30km trips where I want to go very slow for the scenery.

Great hearing about your journey. I'm waiting to get a new bike, but not putting in any orders until supply issues get sorted. saves me money and I'll probably end up with a better bike in the end.

Time to sell my 1/2 dozen EUCs I think, but I'm still inspired by them. My latest is just about a year old, had to try it for the suspension.

@Handlebars - D30 protectors? Tell me more please!!!!

@Explorer-1 - WTF is EUC? 🤪

I love taking this thing to the store for the evening meals and nightly training. The remote fob/key will kill the power and fire up the alarms if toyed with. I did purchase a U-lock but P-town is really tame…. (Was a waste of $$)

And the AirTag seems to work inside the battery box…. (More on this later!)

My guess is electric unicycle
Yes electric unicycle, unfortunately it's not a cycle so a bit misnamed, some prefer the term solowheel, but that turned into a brand name, others like mono-wheel; however EUC is the term that stuck. I figured anyone into the powered scooters would know about similar PEV such as the one-wheel, and the EUCs which got started before the real powerful kick scooters we have today.

@Handlebars - D30 protectors? Tell me more please!!!!
those are the pliable pieces, usually orange colored, that are inside some riding clothes and ski clothes. Upon being impacted they turn to armour instantly ... you can get hip protectors, shoulder, elbow, knee, back, ...all kinds of shapes.

An advanced, patented polymer, CE-rated D3O® impact protectors are the latest advancement in protective armor. D3O® impact protectors utilize intelligent molecules that lock together on impact. Because of this, the impact protector can be made thinner and lighter, making a jacket more comfortable and easier to wear. However, this decreased size does not come at the expense of impact protection.

@BarnBoy: I have read your thread our of pure interest. I don't intend to spoil your fun, I'm just worried about you. You described several crashes of your early days with the powerful e-scooter. It is unheard anyone had so many in the first days of their e-bike rides...

Regarding the climbing capability:

I didn't need 8 kW to conquer that summit. I also doubt you could reproduce it yourself on coarse gravel and dirt. Yes, the speed was low.

Take care. Ride responsibly. (If I see a parked car, I overtake it at least one meter apart or more, and slow down significantly).

@Stefan Mikes - thanks for your concern. The car door was a typical busy intersection where the windows were so tinted, I didn’t see the situation until it was way too late. Also not sure I have my lights on. I have had far more bike accidents!!! Scabs have completely healed and I have done nothing but training rides where I have been trying grassy areas. OMG it is a hoot. It has many aspects of skiing that I love and have to imagine it is actually more snow board like. I tried snowboarding about 25+ years ago. Did one run and threatened the rental to exchange it for skis; worst time on snow ever!

So tonight I decided to see if I could go to the big Sports Park where I go to referee soccer games. Made it and back with some battery to spare. Not sure what is up but I suspect the battery is a fake Panasonic 21700 16a5p (25Ah). Claim is battery should do 37 to 93 miles. I have more instrumentation on order to verify battery output. Stay tuned. Battery went from 63.8V to 55.6V in the almost 9 miles below….

Well I haven’t updated as there are still unresolved issues. The seller has dumped me to his provider in China and offered me a $299 bribe to not return the scooter. Folks in China told me the green wire that caused display to not work was redundant and purposely cut by their engineer. They told me I am not able to adjust the eighteen parameters of the MA01. They say the tire vibrations are not an issue; yet I sent them a video of the scooter nearly shaking off the lift and mast shaking rather violently with my hand on the bar. I keep asking for a schematic or wire diagram; but I think Google has given me enough info. Next major project will be to yank all wiring, fix all the crappy connections; especially the high current paths as the voltage drops are kind of crazy; more reason why I think the pack is a fake. Folks in China have not responded to my requests for help, they just keep asking for more videos stalling the process.

Basically scooter has two brakes that feed two separate motor controllers (front/rear). Both controllers use the same throttle, same brakes and same Turbo/Eco switch. I am not sure how the displays work (share same controller data?) and assume the dual/single button controls if the front motor controller is used or enabled. The dynamic brake of the MA01 works and is so nice for long downhill runs (I see it add voltage to the battery). I plan to post a wire diagram once I know exactly what is going on….

Below is the text from the eBay advertisement….

Thank you gents, but as you can see from my last posted stats, 25mph is all I ever want to try. Goal is to make it calmer else Mode 2 Dual/Eco is all I will do (25mph or 32kph). Mode 2 Dual/turbo gets up to 35mph (48kph) on flat and is a nice power boost to get up hills….

At least I’m not taking the whole family for a ride…🛴

BarnBoy: A question out of curiosity. As I can understand, you ordered a Watt Wagons Hydra. Why would you ride an e-MTB?

Hi folks,
Well seller is a sleaze. He kept toying me with broken promises of help to the point beyond his posted return policy. His provider went off line and zero contact in over a week despite continued emails for help… I gave up the eBay return and accepted the sellers bribe!!!

STAY FAR AWAY FROM UBCOPIERS. Read their Yelp reviews before you deal with them!!! Only four of them and they all are bad; with one rather scary with death threats….

Unresolved Issues:
1- Small MA01 doesn’t display speed. I found a cut wire that fixed issue. China provider said wire needs to be cut saying wire was redundant and this connection can cause other issues.
2. Many of the MA01 settings do not function as per YouTube. Suspect there is still a wiring issue or MA01 is a fake or damaged….
3. Both wheels are not spin balanced. As a result at speeds above 20-25mph (32-40kph) the thing shakes so bad it is scary! I will show how to fix this in a coming update…
4. Zero instructions nor manual, so no clue what the icons all mean on the larger display. Use this post for your manual!!!
5. Large and small displays have as much as a 20kph disparity between them in speed. Supplier could not explain nor suggest a fix.
6. Speed modes 1-3 do not display on the large display yet there are icons for this. Again I think there is a wiring issue…
7. No feedback on Turbo/Eco and Dual/Single motor settings.
8. Claim a 25Ah 16s5p 21700 Panasonic battery pack. Weight of pack is almost 1kg below spec, dimensions are wonky and the charging rates with battery tables indicate closer to 15-16Ah. Dissect the advertised spec above and you can see even the advertisement doesn’t match a 25Ah battery charging specs. To further this claim is the spec distance 37-93 miles versus <20 mile reality…
9. Needed a better light bracket as the one that came would cause lights to bounce… (fixed!)
10. Needs all HW tightened to specifications. The Mast lockdown is the most important one! But verify EVERYTHING is tight before you attempt to ride!!!
11- displayed speed (large or small) is still incorrect. The large display speed is impacted by the throttle position. When scooter rolled or pushed, large display shows zero speed but small show wheels are moving…

Ok folks, I said I was going to be positive. I am just upset this seller took complete advantage of me. That said, the scooter is SUPER FUN but it is clearly not a kids toy!! It is serious stuff and makes me cringe that Lime and other rental scooters made it so these things only require a class C drivers license to operate in California; same story with this 8kW Monster!

So this will be my only super negative post. It is time to move on and show others what I have done to make this a much safer tool in the barn. And one that is fun to ride….

I hope you stay tuned….

Hi @Stefan Mikes - I prefer bikes. This scooter is for short transports and a hold-over for a modern ebike. I have MANY bikes and am hopelessly addicted to them all….

If the scooter is stolen, no heartbreak; not same for my soon to come Hydra!! But I installed an Apple AirTag inside the box as a poor mans tracker, and it works nicely…. (Addressable LED lights on the deck have RF controller inside box too!)

edit- if eMTB -vs- eRoad; I prefer MTB over road, and have only used road bikes to help improve my MTB performance….🤪

That and I have the EGV as a road ebike….

Now I can see BarnBoy understood my question properly, Reed. I thought BarnBoy needed an e-SUV but it looks he really ordered a powerful e-MTB!
