Bafang ultra will not engage

My Freybike am1000 motor will not engage. Display looks normal. Fault codes all 00. If I try to engage walking mode it shudders then stops. It will do this 2-3 times and then not respond at all. I have contacted freybike without response. Any ideas on what this could be? Controller? I would think that if it was the torque sensor it would work in walking mode.

Hard to get any real good ideas from your note. Is the motor running when you hit the throttle, or no?

If the motor is running when you hit the throttle, it sounds like the internal clutch has let go, or possibly, if this is a real early Ultra, you may have stripped the nylon gear they were originally equipped with (they're now metal).

If the motor isn't running, but the display is powering up normally, that sounds more like an internal electrical issue.

Both problems would be pretty unusual, and it sounds like your bike needs to go in for somebody with some experience to have a look at it.

Maybe others will have some better ideas.

I would first check the brake cutoffs and shift sensor if you have them on your bike. An unplug should suffice as I don't believe that they are required for operation. If they are required you should get an error code.

No throttle response at all.

No shift cut off. I have a brake light and it turns on and off as expected when I pull the brakes so I don’t think its the switch.

So the brake icon is turning on and off using brake handles on either side one at a time? In other words, you tried both brakes?

How does it respond in PAS 1 when the pedals are turned?
Bike turned on, sitting with kickstand down and pushed over slightly to lift the rear wheel off the ground, what happens when you turn the pedals a couple of turns?

Just chucking this out there... It might not be relevant at all but you never know...

Something I've heard about the AM1000 is that with heavy off-road use the battery can come loose. Often people add a strap around it to help secure it.

Might be worth checking and making sure the battery connection is fully seated. Look for evidence of burning/spark marks (smell?) too.

I'm no electrical expert, but I have experienced something akin to this with my car once. Everything seemed to be ok, car locks opened fine, dash board all lit up ok, but it didn't have enough oomph to turn the engine over. Turned out to be loose battery connection. Tightened it up and all was fine again.

I will try PAS1 test

Just for clarification, The bike WAS working correctly before this? Or is this initial start-up?
As far as the battery connection goes if your display is working your good. Display controls the motor controller and operation. Thats why when you program your motor controller you disconnect the display, plug the green plug going to your motor and connect it up to your computer it doesn't run. Different voltage I know but you see where Im coming from.
Turn off display, unplug motor from battery, plug back in turn on display and does the display show voltage? Does the throttle work? If you get on the bike and pedal it does the wattage register anything on the screen. I know it's a FREY bike is it the M600 or M620 motor?

That's a good thought there too. If this is a new bike, it seems like I heard of some that were shipped where there was no throttle or PAS until the pedals had gone around twice......

Of course if it was older, and you've been riding for while, you would know one way or the other.

Bike was working apx 500 miles throttle does not work, no power registers on display when pedaling. Battery percentage is showing. Tried a second battery same result.

What motor is this again?
You arn't in PAS 0 are you?
Did you do any recent reprograming?

Out of ideas. If it were mine, I would start thinking about pulling the cover and checking your connections right there at the motor. Maybe check out a youtube or two....

Frikken pullin teeth here. I looked it up myself and you have the G510 motor.
Normal start-up on these motors puts you in PAS 1 mode. Can you verify that. If it somehow got switched to PAS 0 the pedal assist won't work or the throttle either.
If you have an active PAS level ( level 1-9 ) and it's the stock programming you have a motor or controller issue.
Does the motor make ANY noise when applying throttle or calling for pedal assist. If still no go your gonna have to open it up.
Go over to the WattWagon section and look for the thread I just posted about opening up this motor. We opened his up for a different reason but it will give you the steps you need to hopefully do it yourself. If your still not clear PM me and I will give you my contact info and I can walk you through it ,
