Bafang ultra will not engage

Have had bike for a little over a year but I am getting no response from frey to my emails.
is the warranty for more than a year? if not dont expect much help from Frey if yes they should take care of the issue.

Out of ideas. If it were mine, I would start thinking about pulling the cover and checking your connections right there at the motor. Maybe check out a youtube or two....
i agree, it really does sound like a connection issue, no wattage reading on his display and no motor activity when he hits the throttle! a broken mechanism is the motor almost always results in some type of motor activity, clicking, whirring, rumbling something other than just dead.

I hate to say it but warranty's are not that valuable now a days for e-bikes unless you buy locally and can get a response and solution fairly quickly. Your on your own bud. Open the case up and look for anything obvious, phase wires plugs unplugged from circuit board etc. If you find nothing it's probably your controller.
Replacement controller $175 from Cal-E-Bike or a new motor $800 if it comes to that. Sorry for your troubles.

why would you even post this BS, "your on your own", if he purchased from a decent company and his bike is still under warranty they should repair it, parts are delayed now due to Covid and politics but delayed does not "equal on your own",2 months ago someone in the Biktrix owners group cooked his torque sensor,Biktrix had a new motor at this guys door in 7days!

Bafang's motor warranty is 2 years. Frey will likely put you in touch with Bafang's USA rep to troubleshoot. Might as well contact him directly. Here is his info (try email first):

Mr 11 I guess I responded by the fact that he said he has tried to contact FREY to no avail. I guess you missed my post #17 that said to contact me to help him troubleshoot or help fix. Don't think the OP was offended by my remark as it wasn't made to be negative, in fact he gave me a like below the post.
You talk about Biktrix being quick on the draw, my buddy has one of their bikes and has blown out the rear hub, and rear shock and now his front fork is leaking and he hasn't got any results from them. So he replaced them at his cost. Biktrix isn't FREY or Bafang USA for that matter. Hopefully the contact info provided above can be of assistance in getting his motor fixed.
Lets see remove motor and send back or take 1/2 hr and open up the motor himself to possibly fix a problem. Being a hands on guy isn't a bad thing.

A thousand pardons if I'm wrong, but my impression of the OP is that he might NOT be much of a hands on guy. I would hate to see him start throwing parts at his bike to fix it! This bike needs some EXPERT troubleshooting. NOT suggestions saying he has a blown controller, or worse, an entire motor.

I would encourage him to learn enough about his bike/motor to enable him to perform this expert troubleshooting, or lacking that, find a local shop that can/is willing to give him a hand.

I own an Ultra, and had no idea they had a 2 year warranty. Love the idea of contacting Bafang with the hopes they'll be able to guide him through this process.

I really hope Mobe1957 will update this post as he works his way to a solution. That way we can all learn something maybe? -Al

Bafang will warranty my motor but I have to ship it from Missouri to California. I would like to remove the crank arms and sprocket to reduce chances of shipping damage. Does anyone have good source for a crank arm puller and sprocket lock ring tool?

A trip to a quality bike shop will have the parts needed on the shelf or if you ask nicely they will loosen them for you for a beer token 👍.

Rather than dealing with the expense/difficulty of boxing up and shipping a bike like that, don't you have a local shop you could take it to? See if they could figure out what's wrong with it first, or failing that, have them pull the motor so you could ship just that.

The motor takes about 20 mins to remove, no big deal! you will need an Isis type crank puller like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001N883JS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and you will need this ring adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005X76YCS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This vid may also help and also good luck!

Pulled motor, bought a couple tools to remove sprocket nut and pull crank arms. Shipped it out to Johnny Qin at Bafang Svc center in Ca. Shipped back repaired in less than a week no charge AND with zero throttle upgrade. Excellent service by Frey and Bafang!
Fantastic news! But the motor would have been repaired much faster if it was a "Big Brand" bike with LBS support.

"But the motor would have been repaired much faster if it was a "Big Brand" bike with LBS support." Just kidding😁

Sweet!
Thanks for the status update:
Info about the long term service experience is a very important factor when choosing who to deal with!
Please let us know how many miles/km you put on it next year?
