Bafang speed limits

Hi all, I have just completed an ebike conversion using a 500w bafang BBS02 motor with the c965 display on a btwin city bike and it works amazingly well! Only one problem though, when I took it for a test drive I was easily able to reach speeds of around 45kmh, which is awesome, but to comply with the strict Swiss laws I need it to be limited to 25. (I have seen police actually testing random bikes sound town!) I bought this kit as it states it has a speed limit function but it doesn’t do anything when changing it on the display.
Can anyone help? I have ordered a usb programming cable but I am a bit annoyed that it isn’t something already programmed in as stated on their website…

Surprised that your display isn't able to restrict your speed. There is a setting in the controller (via cable and computer) that will tell the controller to pay attention to how the display is set, or, you are able to set it wherever you want while you are in there. Your choice.

Yeah it is a bit strange, I’ll have a look when the cables arrives! Thanks!

Yes Mr. Al is correct. You'll need to change the third setting from the top on the Pedal Assist page. It's probably set to the maximum, a static 40kmh.
You can set it there to 25kmh or you can set it To Displays Command which will then allow the display to be the governor.

And if you think it is working amazingly well now... Wait till you tweak the settings to your personal preferences.
Enjoy!

Great! Thank you very much!

I know but it doesn’t have any effect on the actual speed
So to be clear. you choose a speed setting and the bike under power exceeds the set speed limit? Sorry to be so thick, but I've supported and run scores of bikes with the C965 and the limit works. FWIW I gave up on all but C965, C961, and C963 displays. I ride not watch color screens.

FFS, keeping up with Bafang and Bafang reseller's firmware changes is a fooking nightmare.
There was some stuff on YouTube about how the 02 and HD will be rebranded and get some mods. Two things people have mentioned are a lock on the controller, and handshaking to the battery to limit 3rd party packs. Eunorau has rebranded motors, but for now 315 and 615, not the 325 and 625 of the revised motors. One thing they did on the BBS02/325 (Eunorau vid on YT) is a ring on top and a metal band to hold the motor against the frame. I hate the funky bracket with the teeth. But I installed the Cal Ebike bracket. Kind of a pain but it's done. Anyway if Baffy locks the controller down, that will eliminate your aggravation, yes? Ah, but there will be new aggravations!

that will eliminate your aggravation
I'm not understanding your point. Bafang does very little if anything to provide accurate information regarding firmware updates, changes, and revisions. Rebranding has been going on for nearly a decade. Remember eRad? There are a number of .bin files floating around. I provided a firmware file for amberwolf to post on ES. He used it to start the thread. I wanted to stay anonymous at that time. Eunorau is owned by another Chinese rascal. Just like many other direct-to-consumer eBike sellers, they give us products with no standard, Bafang OEM, connectors. Adding to the end user's frustration.

Right now, Bafang has a cable to address programming of the controller. I'll guess your bin file could be uploaded with that cable, but I run stock and don't have the cable. I got my 02 from BafangUSA and all the little plugs went in all the little sockets.

I know what a YouTube site, High Voltage, is saying, and little more. He says this program cable idea may be gone. He also says the controller will be locked to 48v and the battery you buy will (may) have to handshake with the controller. Sort of like Bosch. All I know.

Eunorau is an interesting seller. They seem to have a great relationship with Bafang. (Bafang has rebranded Bafang USA.) Lot of good stuff on the Eunorau site. Bafang is a public company, listed stock, worth a few billion dollars now. I would expect changes, probably more Bosch-like. Maybe they'll get Titus Welliver as a spokesman.

I imagine there may be a workaround but I expect it will become highly technical, expensive, and a warranty killer. A couple of months ago I could access the BESST program from my drive, but now it needs a Bafang sanctioned login for approved dealers to access through their servers. I’m not very positive about their continued support of the BBSxx series. 5 year old mids parts stream has dried up.

Bike parts are generally harder to source now in a timely way. Let's hope that is the case here and not a lack of support. Downloading from Chinese servers? Or Russian? I would have second thoughts about that unless it is a dedicated computer for only that one service purpose. And not enabled to be networked on my network.
