Bafang mid drive range

Hi guys, I currently have a 250w rear hub drive Shogun with a 36V 10.4AH battery. On PAS 1 on average rail trail rides, I'm getting around 40km out of the battery. (55yo / 76kg) For my next bike I was thinking either a Bafang mid 500w 36v with a 16 AH battery.....or the 750w version (48v) but with a 52v 14 AH battery. Under similar conditions, do you think there would be much difference in range between the two mid drive options? And if I was getting 40km out of my current rear hub setup, what sort of range would you expect out of the mid drives - again, assuming an economical setting and staying off the throttle. They would probably be fitted to a Merida big 7 mtb or similar bike.

Just had another thought - can both the bafang's be programmed/set for ie: 100W on level 1? In which case the 52V x 14AH would give me the best range.

I have been building and refining my set-up for 3 years now and always suggest using a mid-drive of a hub drive, use the largest motor that can be used and still keep the bike legal on class-1 bike infrastructure. I recently replaced my BBS02 (750W) with a BBSHD (1000W) due to 1st motor making noises after 9000 miles and that the HD is built to be more durable. Yes, it did increase my top speed, something which I couldn't care less about. The new drive is silent, powerful and doesn't seem to have affected my range what-so-ever. This is what I ride:

Watched it again! Glad to read the BBSHD is working well. I wouldn't hesitate to drop the input to 25A. Since maximum speed isn't important. I'm guessing you're riding in a manner that is using power as you did with the BBS02.

Two questions, who makes the gloves in the video, and the center stand as well?

Hey Tom,

The gloves are Chrome Industries bike gloves, $30 a pop. They were recommended by a friend and became instant favorites. They fit my hand perfectly, have screen sensitive tips, they are very well vented, are thin enough to wear under my winter gloves as liners, evaporate water fast which helps keep me cool on smoking hot days. Problem was that three months later they were holes burning through in several places. I wrote the company and asked for a BOGO free, they offered a 15% off on their products and I started looking for new gloves. They came to .30 cents a ride. I like more durable gear than that.

The Ursus Jumbo 80 center-stand and one-off thrice modified center stand mount were put on the bike by Cyclefab, LLC Seattle. The original side-stand Tout Terrain sends with the bike bent in half. Colin at Cyclefab made a custom mount for my Panamericana frame that worked with the J-80 and looks excellent. After a few necessary mods to stop it from rotating under heavy load I think it's perfect for me.
