Bafang BBSHD no response in PAS 1

I have this BBSHD motor with a 48v. 21 A battery that is getting no assist at all in PAS 1 out of 5. Be it in Eco or in Sports mode, no assist at all. The PAS levels from 2 to 5 are working normally. Or is there a special way to program a 5 PAS levels DPC 18 using the 9 PAS level config tool available on the net? I only used data for the first 5 PAS levels, leaving the last four blank. Could that be what caused PAS 1 not to output any power? Where should I look?

I eventually replace the original 5 PAS DPC18 with a 9 PAS-860C and the PAS 1 problem went away. I gues the culprit was the display.

i’m kinda confused. if you only use 5 level PAS why set at 9 with no values?

that’s something BAFANG did in the firmware. it’s frustrated many users. i’ve had success flashing the firmware. see endless_sphere.com for a firmware flashing thread by amberwolf.

Yes... Search around on here for your Display and Eco and Sport.
They use all 9... Something like eco is all odd and sport all even in the settings, but that's not 100% correct.
@AHicks I believe would know exactly.

What firmware are you talking about? Do you mean that I could upgrade the frimwar of my DPC 18 which only has 5 PAS levels to 9 PAS levels?

weird. i’ve owned 4 and sold scores of BBSHD and associated displays. not one with eco sport displays. who sold this kit? Looking back i think i’ve not used the DPC18. Off to read the manual…

just read. wow! what a suck display. two pas choices, 0 or 5.

i mentioned flashing the controller. no firmware available for a display.

unreal. i still run old C965 sans all those bells and whistles and purty color.

I have the DPC-18 display. You can switch from 5 to 9 PAS really easy by just scrolling through the menu. Mine is almost 2 years old now. It does not have an eco or sport mode which may be in a newer version. It has performed flawlessly. This was in that other thread or some other thread.

My DPC18 display does not give me the 5 or 9 PAS levels choice; instead, it only shows Eco or Sports instead of the PAS levels.

@laudouDo you have a copy of the manual you were provided? I found one with 0 and 5 PAS and eco or sports.
Just sellers keeping things interesting @Bobber I read the newest manual and it's as @laudou describes. Another BBSxx series nightmare, one model of display, and at least two firmware versions.

I can’t remember if I got a manual but do remember finding a YouTube how to. I just ran through my PAS right nowI forgot I had a 3. From turning on the bike to changing the PAS it’s 30 seconds or less. Here’s some pics. Where does it say eco/sport on yours?

I got this display installed on a bike I bought in January 2023.

Your setting the default for when you power up the bike... So it will be the ONE you choose

I know. And when I long press the + I enter the Sports mode. Long press the + sign again gets back to Eco mode.

So I guess I have 3 defaults. My ex-wife says I have a lot more………
