Bafang 1000 Mid Drive

His bike has an Ultra motor.. Not BBS.

Oh, OK
I thought an Ultra motor was a BBSHD ?

And a 30t may be a bit drastic.

I don't think so.

Not if he's struggling to go slow enough 95% of the time in first gear and PAS mode 1

Use this to get in the ballpark
Any 130bcd chainring should be compatible... But double check as I don't know what custom stuff Biktrix may substitute.

Yeah, make sure you talk to Biktrix.
They sold the bike so they'll know what chainring will work for you.

You could probably find something cheaper on Aliexpress or Amazon, but I'm guessing that if you buy from Biktrix, you won't get a "cheap knock-off".

Ultra is a big step up from the BBS.
Torque & Cadence sensors and a bit more sophisticated programming... and a shit_load of torque.
I have mine tuned to do exactly as I want and it feels very natural. Also the way the throttle overlays the PAS... it mesh's together seamlessly.
And with the low gearing of the Rohloff.. it'll climb a tree

Guys
I have the following gears and chain ring set up, (counted).
9 sp x11x34 with a 44t chain ring, with the wide/narrow spacing.

A top speed of 7/8 mph while in the 34t using eco 1 step power setting,
pedaling or minimum throttle usage.

I use this gear selection for 95% of my trail exploring/riding.

If you get that 30t chainring, you might actually find yourself using second gear?

EDIT:
It looks like it looks like the smallest chainring available for the Ultra is a 40t?
That wouldn't make as much difference as a 30t.

@Gionnirocket would know more about it.

@Nvreloader maybe @Gionnirocket can help you program your motor?

It is UART, so I think that you should be able to program it??
