I don't see where the half twist throttle is specifically for the ultra motor, either that or I'm not reading it right.

Amazon is a bit more expensive, but it comes with at least a 30 day warranty, so you can return it if it doesn't work.

Buying directly from China (Aliexpress) is risky.
They have free returns but you have pay to ship it back to China that'll cost more than the throttle.

The Amazon and Aliexpress versions have a "paddle" type grip, that I personally prefer.

I find it more comfortable.

The big thing is to make sure it's for a mid-drive. (female plug)

The throttles marketed for the BBS* motors work with the Ultra. See here
2 things to look for.
The connector is correct.



And that it mounts with a clamp like this..

.. and not a set screw into the handlebars.
The latter strip out easily

One caveat is I tweaked the Start/End voltage on the Throttle settings to match the throttle voltages. Since you can't do that on the CANbus version you might end up with a throttle with a bit shorter active range or not providing 100% current at full rotation, though the latter unlikely.

Since none of you live around here you can't crash the party. I sent this out to a bunch of my friends today. When I led the most recent First Friday Ride after the third speech by the mayor that evening I proposed this idea and everyone liked it. All these places have live music and are connected by protected bike lanes with zero cars. So why not? There is not a leader or organization to permit, insure, or blame, just free association.

We are doing an invite only group ride on Friday the 24th, starting at Crooked Goat on Western, by Petaluma City Hall. It will not be posted on social media. It starts at 5:15. Word of mouth only. You can individually invite a friend or two. We will have at most one 4oz sample beer per location and only spend 15-minutes per location. From Crooked Goat we take the rail trail to Lagunitas, then cross to Hen House. After Hen House we will head back on the rail trail. Although not part of the ride some may want to individually gather after the ride at Brewsters, Taps, or Crooked Goat. This is a trial ride. If it is a fun success, it could become a regular thing for adults only, from May to October.

Thanks for the info on the throttle. I may just buy one. My worry there is if I buy one and really like it, I'll be using the throttle all the time instead of PAS but as it is now, I think my thumb throttle is borderline dangerous

Naaa... I rarely use the throttle like that.
I mostly use it to protect my knees when starting out in rough terrain or uphill. There are a few other reasons to have one but nothing intoxicating. My use is less than 0.1% in time and distance.
That said... I'll never own a bike without one.

Stupid and annoying at best.
Certainly not ergonomic or user friendly.

The PAS modes were just as bad as the twitchy throttle on my first ebike.

I bought it cuz I wanted a tough ebike that wouldn't break if it fell over.
There was a guy that weighed 325 pounds with the same ebike, and it worked great for him.

But not everyone weighs 325 pounds, so there Should Be a way to turn the damn power down !!??

I bought an off-road display for it that allowed me to turn down the ebike to 6 kph (so children and grandma could ride it)

Under that setting, it Still Slammed On the power (at least 18amps) at slightest touch of the throttle.

The stupid thing launched itself to over 13 kph before it even knew how fast it was going and then finally slowed down to 6 kph.

That would have dumped Gramma or a child on to the pavement.
Just Fricken Stupid Programming !!

I returned the Display but was out $80 in shipping and duty costs.

Then I bought and installed the KT controller and display.

Because this thread has run its course and is now on artificial life support I am trying to give it some extended life by injecting it with stimulants into its multitude of tubes and beeping ICU hospital equipment. It is brain dead and the call to pull the plug is coming. You can see illegal bikes on Amazon, you just cannot ship them to California.

For those who prefer crotchless riding pants you are over a screwed barrel adjuster with these tires from Schwalbe. They are for crotched only! It says so. No crotchless. Forboden.

While I do prefer a twist throttle, I had to switch to a thumb model. I need to be able to remove it quickly and easily when I ride on class 1 only trails.

I replaced the hex head mounting screw with a thumb screw so it can be removed & replaced in seconds.

Yes, I could do the same with a twist throttle, but there would have to be enough slack in the cable to slide it off. Then, I would have to replace it with another grip.

Once or twice, a ranger commented on it but I was never asked to leave.
There are some trails I ride where enforcement is strict with a fine involved. I don't take a chance at those locations.

I think it would depend on the LEO. IMO, a throttle is easier to spot than a 1000W motor.

I had mentioned M. Robertson who lived in the Monterey Bay area. And had giant cargo bikes with powerful motors, then would program down the amps. So a 52V battery hooked up to a motor with 30 Amps, gives 1,500 watts. But if lowered to half that it is 750 watts. He liked the beefy motors for durability not speed. He would go to Cost Co and load the whole bike with gallons of milk, you name it, and maybe a flat screen TV. No one would know if you did this to your programing, but if you publicly post about it then you would have a time stamped record of it. The main thing is that you act like a responsible adult. Then I think no one cares.
