Allant - Bosch Smartphone Hub

Yes. Either use a smaller, older phone or get a cheap burner. I use a 5 year old android phone without any cell connection. It works fine. My good phone stays elsewhere. I just load my routes and maps when I'm home via wifi.
A good reason to replace my Apple 8plus…thanks

I see the very same thing: "the directional compass on the COBI display sometimes gets out of phase by 90°"
Next "thing" on my list :(
I have given up on COBI. The compass is off. I turn the bike off. In 4 or 5 seconds it turns itself back on. It usually stays off the second time. Every couple of days the app acts like I’m a new person. Reload everything. I am away from my LBS until September at which time I will go in to have everything checked. I have received a reply from Bosch concerning the compass. They currently do not have a solution. I love my bike. I use Strava as my daily recorder.

I honestly don’t know which version is the latest for your 8s but your Trek dealer’s service person should. There are a list of options you can choose from during the update and the light on/off option is one of them.

This should be the latest version.
My compass works fine.
I could update bike weight spec didn’t check tire size.

Cobi.bike is a dog of an app, with no offense to canines. It's not very flexible. It has things irrelevant to North Americans. Rydies? It has poor route planning. To do loop rides, I plan the ride with ridewithgps, then upload to Komoot to get it into cobi.bike. The app has undocumented quirks too. All this said, it works for the basics. You can see the route. You can see your power output. It saves your ride, albeit to yet another app, Strava.

I live with it. I'm not going to spend hundreds to get something better.

Has any dealer refused to set the lights so you can turn them off?

I only asked once and they had no issue with the request. Works perfect and it just requires pressing and holding the + button on the Purion controller to turn them on or off.

Yes they should set your Purion lights the way you want with no charge.

For securing my phone in the holder I have this tether that I’ve had from another holder. I have an iPhone 7 that is in an otterbox case. I take the outer rubber part of the case off and the phone is in the plastic case and fits tightly in the COBI.Bike holder. Then I tether it in on the corners and it sits in there securely. Here is the link to the page for the product. I’m going to order some spares because I’m sure I’ll wear this out eventually.

My compass WAS working fine with my iphone x but now that I upgraded to the iphone 12 the compass is off. There gotta be a fix right?

No fix. I have the iPhone 8. Within the last 3 weeks I have received a letter stating no fix as of now. I can duplicate the problem and I hoped that might help but it does not. I have given up on COBI, bike because of this and now use Strava. My compass is off 90 degrees after I teach 10 mph. Pedaling has nothing to do with it. I walked mine up a hill ( compass perfect) at the top of the hill I got into the saddle and never touched the pedals. As I hit 10 mph the compass slowly rotated 90 degrees. Before this test I assumed it had something to do with the motor kicking in as I started to pedal. It stays off by 90 degrees.
I have a Trek Allant + 8S

Ok, this is not a put down to anyone, just my way of viewing buying newer tech.
When I started looking at ebikes 3 years ago, I liked the Treks I saw but I really didn’t think the overall tech/support package was mature enough for me to spend that much money on. So I waited till May of last year to buy my Allant+7 and I’ve loved it from the moment I test drove it until present day.
Now I view Trek and Bosch‘s efforts with their controller family the same way. IMHO, the whole family needs to be matured…rethought and redone from scratch before I’d be interested in updating to any of them. The Purion needs to be updated with more data (that the PLCX motor already has available like cadence, etc.) seeable in the display. No need for customer programming at that level. The other’s just need to connect better and have more customer “programming/tuning” included with increasing capability as you go up the line.

After my problem it’s looks like you are correct. I’m just not sure anyone is working on the compass problem. I hope I’m wrong.

BTW: At some point in the past some said they were told the compass thing was an Apple problem. In the note I received from Bosch they did not say that. They just said they do not have a solution at this time.

I found it interesting my old phone worked but not the new one. If the compass is the only issue I will live with it. The bike itself has been good for me.

I was on the phone with Bosch today. We spent over an hour trying to resolve the COBI.Bike compass problem. We tried everything with no solution. They just don’t know where the problem lies. They say the data comes from Apple. My Apple compass is always correct while COBI is not. Bottom line - there is no solution.
