It's in the limited and probably will be in future models as it becomes more readily available. It's higher spec just like other components such as cassettes you don't see the higher spec cassettes available on all the models, do you? Hopefully it will be an option in the near future! It puzzles me that Giant do not offer that new battery on their compatible e-bikes from factory... That would make selling those products easier.
I think I'd hold out for the 800 but the 625 does make a useable difference. Having 2 batteries to swap in and out makes good cents but, is a bitI need long range. 500Wh is not enough for my need. 625Wh I'm not sure.
If you ask the right person and if it's available, they might be able to order it with the larger battery without charging the full price on top of the price with the smaller battery or the dealer could give discount to take a little bit of the sting out of ordering the additional battery. I think that Giant may very well offer it as an option in the future remember it's fairly new at this point.Giant themselves give the list of compatible bikes with the 800Wh battery. Why not offer those models with the choice for the customer?
Yup, it's on their site for ordering now.800![]()

Congrats! Very happy with it myself.battery came in today! On the charger as I write this
As one would expect definite range increase. It doesn't even weigh that much more. Rode it all the way to work and back and didn't even drop one bar. Normally I drop one bar about 1/4 the way back. Next year I'm hoping to climb MT Washington on it.Congrats! Very happy with it myself.

I just got a Thrive ! I quite love it and am pleased with the range so far with the 500 Wh.It would be pretty awesome if Giant allowed a purchaser to choose an option of battery size when they buy the bike initially. Norco does that with their e-MTBs, you have a choice of one of three battery sizes. The price is adjusted accordingly, but at least you don’t have to take the stock one and buy a second one if you want more capacity.
I’d love a Thrive with the 800 wh battery for my wife. We like to ride together, but I wish she could go faster so I’d love to get an ebike for her. She’s a bit reluctant, but hopefully she will come around. With 800 wh she could obviously go further and faster and that just opens up more options for us.
Good point…fewer charge cycles…Anecdotal, non-scientific comment:
I am of the opinion that I do see a difference on my longer rides with the 625 on my new bike.
My remaining charge levels are such that I am charging less often. With the 500 - I rarely left the house without a full charge.
Both bikes (Giant Fathom HT and Liv Intrigue FS) are running similar tires and were ridden on similar routes and have the same motors.
