3k budget, 1ST E Bike, need help deciding

Congrats on your new Bulls - I think you will enjoy it and it should be very compatible with your buddies' bikes on your rides!

2019 SDURO Trekking 7.0

Got the last one I could find in the XL frame size (I'm 6'4"). Have my PearTune chip on the way to give it pedal assist to 28 mph (like I said earlier, I'm addicted to Class 3 speeds).
Congrats on your new purchase. I like the idea that you are going with a speed delimiter. You will not regret unlocking all that extra power these motors have to offer. Good Luck and ride safe! 👍

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all the advice! I am a new owner of the Bulls Twenty8 E45 in 60 frame size! I got a great price and the trekking 9.0 I could not find within 500 dollars of the Bulls in my size. I think I will be happy. Which Haibike did you get?
Congrats on your new purchase. Great that you were able to find your size. I had the same issues with sizing. Loved the models, however, was quite a challenge finding my correct size which is Small with 28" standover. Grab it now, or it will be gone before you know it! 👍

Unfortunately, there is not. Right now I am basically down to two bikes l with decent deals. The fullseven 9.0 with Super Moto X tires, or the Bulls Twenty8 E45. All bikes in my size are basically sold out and I would like to ride something this week as I just sold all my other bikes already. Between the two, which route would you go. Same exact price. My friends ride the Checkpoint Alr5 gravel bikes from Trek and I would like a bike that allows me to ride with them. Thank you for your help!

What is the average and maximum cursing speed of your friends? What kind of terrain are they riding?

As a bicycle fullseven 9 is a much better bike than Bulls twenty8 which is just a hybrid with coil front fork and limited tire clearance. Haibike has very good suspension components, Magura MT7 brakes, better shifter/derailleur etc.

Unless you are riding a fat tire the difference between mtb tires and 700c for ebikes is not much. What is going to affect your range will be the speed, below 20mph these bikes are efficient if you ride with avg speeds above 20mph then your range will take a significant hit.

For riding position you can get a quality adjustable stem, if you are riding mostly on pavement then you may go for a smoother tire, for gearing a larger front cog is an option.

A hybrid bike like the bulls offering will never have the grip, control, comfort of a good full suspension like FS 9. While 28mph may look good on paper a delimited CX is actually better than the HS motor on the Bulls. You can always put better rolling tires and make a great commuter of the FS haibike but you can not make a hard tail with limited tire clearance like Bulls come any close to the capabilities of a good FS bike.

I have two bikes which are very similar to both Bulls and the FS Haibike and I would prefer the FS bike to the hybrid every time. When on the trails it is not even close, FS is amazong , when riding at high speeds (happens when going downhill) I feel like FS has better handling thanks to wider tires.

Thanks for the well thought out response. Unfortunately, I had to make a decision, and I went with the Bulls. I will never be on a single track or a mountain. I am 38 years old, and to this date have never done that. I am strictly path, packed limestone, some gravel and packed dirt roads. 80 percent plus will be paved, so I do think the Bulls will end up being the better bike for this situation. Ride speeds around 12mph. I also did not like that the fullseven used the second gear which in reviews, was quite a bit louder. I want to be as quiet as possible. Thanks!

I think you made a great choice, hope it gets to you soon and you enjoy it.

Sadly, my bike has been sitting in the UPS facility in IL since Saturday morning. The delivery date has slipped from this Thursday to next Monday.

Wow, that's crazy, I would be so irritated. Wish you miles of happiness as well. I was thinking of clip less pedals, anyone use them with e bikes?

We use them on our work-out street bikes when we are bombing around our sprint route loop.

I don't know if I would use them on an e-bike off the street. If you don't happen to unclip properly during a spill, that e-bike is a lot heavier than a standard old mountain bike when you can't get away from it and it lands on top of you!
