Piaggio recalled the WI-bike with belt drive apparently Continental who makes the belts have recalled them and will not replace them. The choices are go to a chain drive or wait while they do some rengineering but it will still be a chain drive and they will loan you a bike or you can get a refund to the chain bike price or a full refund. Well At least they stand behind the product

the drive train is the most critical part on the entire ebike. Wonder why they don't use the Gates Carbon Belt ?
Continental makes tires, and their dashboard. Did not know they made drive belts.

Hi from Italy,
my Active Plus with 120 KM is recalled for the same problem. Could you please post the letter you received
by Piaggio.

Thanks

The letter does not say much, only that the belt drive could fail at any time without warning. and that they are recalling it and to call your dealer where you bought the bike. The options are to drop down to a lower model with chain and they will refund the difference in price, or they will give you a loaner and they will in ~60-90 days give you back your bike with a chain. Or they will refund all monies paid and you must return the bike to get your refund. i am waiting for over a week for them to tell me which local vespa dealer I can return it too since I bought it from a new york dealer and I live in Florida

Ciao Dfstarman,

thanks a lot for the answer, pity, here, in the land of Piaggio I have not the same treatment.
My letter say sorry and bla bla but no refund money at all.

I try to Piaggio kindly by phone for a refund, but for now doesn't work.

I share tomorrow my letter, obviously in Italian.

Have a nice day,

Massimo

None of what I told was in the letter except to call the dealer and it also had a customer service number in the letter(the number was a NYC number but the person was actually in California) . The dealer told me the alternatives and I confirmed with the customer service people. The entire thing is being paid for by Continental because it is their recall and not they are not going to make bike belts anymore.

I ordered Reise and Muller Nevo Nuvinci to replace it and obtained a Nyon controller so it has the sames features as the Wi-bike except for the theft alarm .

hello. i received a letter in the mail about the recall in sept 2018. in the letter, it stated that i had 3 options: 1) a full refund 2) downgrade to a lower model and get the difference in money back 3) wait for the new bike. i returned the bike to the dealership and told them i would like a full refund. it's been 6 months and i have tried to follow up with the piaggio company about 10 times in the last 6 months. i got in touch with a customer care specialist about 5 weeks ago over the phone and she stated that i should send my receipt. i send my receipt via email the same day it was requested and i didn't hear back from them over the course of 5 weeks even when i tried to reach out to them. finally, i got in touch with the same customer care specialist and she said that the refund is no longer an option and asked where they should send the new bike. i explained that i requested the refund and already got a new bike since i could not wait for the new one. she did not give me any options except "well, you can sell the bike then". i was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience. if yes, what steps did you take next? also, does anyone have a copy of the original letter that they sent about the recall? thank you! i really hope the company backs up its word and provides the refund money.
